Concur completely, Gough Thomas (1900-1987) was an excellent writer, who knew a great deal about the UK gun trade. Though you may of meant 1978 or so not 1822.

They made them in all steel and a lighter weight alloy version. I own both

They both work well. I like the longer length compared to skeeters.

If the Radcliffe you brought was the 16ga one just sold on gun broker, you got a very nice gun for the money.
