Waiting until hunting season to buy ammo used to be smart, because that’s when Wallys, Cabelas, et al would stock their shelves and offer sales promotions. Not any more.

The Model 99 .300 Savage is a GREAT call! I was in a local gunshop the other day here in Northern California and saw about six of these sitting in the used gun rack. We used to see a ton of old 16 gau ...

I gave up on the Citori .. and picked up a 1974 Browning Superposed "Super Light" 12 gauge (for a lot less than a Citori). It's back to the future for this bird hunter.

While folks -- and the companies themselves -- say BOSS and HeviBismuth are safe to use in older guns I just don't want to take the chance. While the shot may be soft and safe those are some stout, mo ...

I have a L.C. Smith 16 gauge Field Grade built the exact same year with 2 3/4-inch chambers. I stick to RST loads -- including Bismuth nontoxic when nontoxic hunting loads are required because of the ...

Several states are introducing legislation requiring nontoxic shot for hunting to one degree or another. Not sure how successful these efforts will be but I'm thinking in a generation or two all hunti ...

Listened to the September Orvis podcast over the weekend. Apparently, BOSS shotshells has plans to load and introduce 2 1/2 inch shells in the future. These will be copper-plated Bismuth nontoxic.

In California, we have to use nontoxic shot for everything -- from hunting to pest management, big game, doves, predators, etc.

I'm loving all the new boutique custom shell companies starting up. B ...

I love the folks at RST. They are super nice — but how can they always be out of everything you want and they advertise? Every order you place is like “Sorry, we’re out of those 8s but we can swap pap ...

Was surprised to find a bunch of Federal Grand American paper shotshells (in 12 gauge) for sale at the local hunting shop. Had me wondering whether -- given the general materials shortage -- we'll see ...

I love the commitment to 16 gauge ammo. Certainly, the money and demand is in 12 and 20 gauge ammo, yet they continue to grow their line of 16 gauge offerings -- in purple hulls no less.

I picked u ...
