My old Remington 11/48 autoloader has been giving me some issues and I've been giving a lot of thought to buying a new Stevens 555 Over/Under in 16ga.

Anyone here have any actual experience with ...

It really is a matter of taste. A well made gun is just that.

What shoots best is a matter of what one is used to shooting

Yep. To me, my Rem 11-48 is the best shooting 16 gauge. Mrs Willy ...

Looks like the run on ammo around here has even hit the 16ga ammo. My normal supplier was down to 3 boxes of Rem Game loads yesterday. 2 #6 and a box of #8. The sixes went home with me.

My youngest daughter was wanting a shotgun and her hubby was being rather slow about coming around to the idea. So, I gave her a single barrel 16 that has been sitting around here not being used and ...

The one gun I really regret letting get away from me was a 16ga A-5 with a plain modified barrel. I hunted everything with that gun for several years.

I've owned a 311 and a 5100. The 5100 was the much nicer gun. I'd still have it, but it was a 20 and I traded it for a Remington 1100 in 16.

My Rem 11-48 16ga has a Polychoke. I love it. Although it's more "dial a squirrel" with me.

I must be weird, but I liked that safety on my old A-5 and didn't have a bit of problem with it.

My 11-48 in 16 had a Poly Choke on it when I got it. You get used to it and I wouldn't have it any other way now.

I knew the 11-48 could be had from the factory with a Poly Choke, but not the 11. Thanks!

(My 16 gauge 11-48 has a Poly Choke, but it's add on as the barrel is marked Mod)

On my old A-5 16, I used the heavy setting for 1 1/8 & 1 1/4 oz loads. The light setting for 1 oz and lower. It worked fine for me like that.

Best 16 gauge to fondle?

Your own. A wise monkey doesn't monkey with another monkey's shotgun.

New to me 16s don't show up here much, but they're usually Remington autoloaders. I inherited the last one (11-48 ) from my late father in law's collection of Remington autos when it was orphaned.
