I was at Kittery Trading Post in Kittery, Maine yesterday with a couple friends, looking through their guns and stuff.

They have priced their lead shot at $50 for a 25 lb. bag.

I'm glad they value it so highly and obviously like it so much, because I wouldn't think of separating them from it by pulling out my money and buying it at that price.

My observation is that most places use lead shot as a loss leader, with a very small mark up of the lead itself. I just bought 4 bags here in Ohio for just under $40.00 per bag, including sales tax.

Perhaps you saw a store with a regular margin--and the results!

Shot has been priced in hte low $40's in PA for the last few years in most places. $50 seems like they do not want to sell it.

Here in Spokane, 25 pounds of lead shot goes for about $42 including our 8.7% tax.

Here in Centralia, Wa. Connie's Components has Northwest Magnum shot for $34.99 a bag or $32.99 a bag if you buy 40 or more. This is where I buy all my shot.

Makes my 3 tons of wheel weights look better and better.

A lot of people around here are using reclaimed shot at around $26 a bag. The number of ATA shooters in MN is around 450. Down from 900 a couple of years ago. I suspect the same downturn is to be found in skeet and sporting clays. It used to be that we worried about gun control driving us out of the game. It is now lead control by unidentified speculators.

I just checked the price of lead shot at a wholesale place, $38.50. At that cost and the price of primers, it hardly pays to reload. I just bought a case of 16 ga Federal 1oz for $68 plus tax. 12's and 20's for $52 a case.

Most of the stores here in So. Calif still have shot prices at or near the $50 mark. While it may be available cheaper now the stores are still trying to recoup what they spent on their current supply of shot. Unless it's changed there is one range that sells reclaim shot for ~$24 a bag and new shot for $40.
