Wink Hi all, I'm looking at the DeHaan SO model SxS in 16ga, looks good (except it has extractors not ejectors, oh well) anyway, do any of you out there have one? Looking for some opinions on them like weight and balance, reliability and any other comments pros or cons on this gun?

I sure appreciate your opinions.

Thanks!!!!!!

Greg

You might look-up Engstfeld. He recently posted the following threads.

I don't know anything about the DeHaans, but I wouldn't let the extractors vs ejectors worry you; I'd pick extractors every time with a 16ga. given the benefits [re necessity] of reloading.

Otherwise you spend all your time bending over picking up the hulls or trying to remember to put your left hand over the action when you break the gun.

gjw: you might PM Birdawg if he's not along soon. He's visited the showroom and has been very impressed with DeHaan's quality control.

gjw:
i looked at a cz-usa bobwhite yesterday and was very impressed.
made by huglu, same as the dehaan imports.
check out their website and shop around, you might be able to get the cz for less.....basically apples to apples as far as i can tell.
service wise, i'm willing to bet dehaan is better, heard good things about him.

I own a DeHaan SO 20GA(don't hunt with it any more) . I t's a good gun and I've killed a few dozen birds with it. The only thing I really don't like is the dang stiffness. I've had it for a few years now and it still breaks open hard. But I'm a hunter not a shooter. I probably shot it less than 200 times. I stopped hunting it on quail cuz it is too slow to get those 3rd and 4th shell in cuz the thing is too tight . I sent it back to Dehaan and it's exactly the same. I've handled four or five other Dehaans and they they all open tough . But again if you shoot sporting clays once a week with it I don't think it will be a problem for long. that's my only gripe -it's a good gun . If you want ejecters buy an S1. double trigger rules for upland hunting. Selecting your choke is one step rather than two as with a selective single trigger. No switching - just pull the needed trigger. Most guys who I know who use ejecters in the field leave way too many hulls out there -some times just because the cover is too thick. I think it's better to pull 'em . just my thoughts.

I have a DeHaan SO in 16 gauge. Straight stock, double triggers.
28 inch barrels choked IC/M. It represents their base model. I am quite pleased with it. A lot of gun for the money. I have shot about 500-700 rounds thru it and have had no problems with stiffness or issues opening it.

If buying one from Mark direct, I would suggest you ask him to check the trigger pull before shipping to you.
