In Saskatchewan, it is illegal to lease private land for hunting purposes. All hunters have access to all private land unless it is posted, without any legal requirement to have permission from the land owner. (it is good manners, however to ask!) Huge areas of public land cover all of the Northern half of the province, and much of the south has public land in the form of community pastures, provincial parks (open to hunting) and wildlife habitat land, bought with hunters dollars. There is some pressure from outfitters trying to reserve access to private land for foreign clients and shut out locals, but the counter balance is that for birds anyway, non-resident aliens are not required to use a guide or outfitter. We have five species of geese, innumerable ducks, cranes, sharptial, spruce and ruffed grouse, abundant huns, and some pheasant. I think I live in paradise! |
