Nice looking gun. It should cost too awful much to have a stock guy make you a splinter forearm, if you don't like that big BTFE.

Well done Lance Very Happy Busting Clays and I were just talking about that gun!
LC Smith was one of the last to lengthen the 16g chambers to 2 3/4, some guns in the 40's still had 2 9/16. Still some nice colors for a Field Grade too! What year production? Chokes? Plans for using?
And have you checked out the LC Smith Collectors site http://www.lcsmith.org/ ?

Rev,
I will be using it for upland so was looking at having the chokes opened to about .005/.015 or so. Mostly pheasants, huns and chucker. although I may use my citori for the chucker. I did see the LC Smith site and I am going to send a check off to join.

Perfect-my LC is .006 and .014 and fortunately really likes the less than $5/box Federal Game Shok 1 oz at 1165 fps for birds and 7/8 oz 2 1/2" loads for clays.
I've messed with Ithaca, Fox, and Parker now and there's just something more elegant (and unfortunately delicate Rolling Eyes ) about sweet Elsies Very Happy
Good shooting!

I know what you mean about the Elsie's. I have Parker, Beretta, have had Mod.24's, Lefevers and several more but there is just something about the way the elsie feels in my hands and when I shoulder the gun. I probably shoot it more than I should. Most of my 16's set in the gun case while I shoot the elsie on skeet and birds. I just can't leave it at home when I go shooting or hunting.
I like the Idea of a sweet Elsie Society

Well the seller states that they will not ship to a C&R license(the estate is afraid of liability) and the gun has two small dings in one barrel. I am trying to get a picture of the dings. The seller would like to relist the the Item with a lower reserve and the correct information. At the price I bought it (800.00) if the barrels need work and to have a forearm built should I try to have them relist it and try to get it a little cheaper or is it worth it at this price to still have the work done?
Thanks for any help and insite given,
Lance

Here's Kearcher's price list:
http://members.toast.net/keithkearcher/pricing.html

I don't see removing dents on Orlen's but he could no doubt do it:
http://members.aol.com/sgunbore/brochure.gif

Here's Briley's price/service list:
Chamber Sleeving (down one ga., per hole) $375.00
Chamber Sleeving (same ga., per hole) $275.00
Choke Alterations (per hole) $85.00
Cut, Crown, And Install New Bead
Barrels with hangers $55.00
$300.00
Dent or Bulge Removal $75.00 +
Headspace Rings (per hole) $200.00
Hi-Viz Front Sight with 5 inserts (supplied & installed) $60.00
Install Beads - front or mid (includes drilling & taping) $40.00
Install Beads - front or mid (replacing a factory bead) $30.00
Install Front Bead (real ivory) $200.00
Lengthen Forcing Cone (per barrel) $60.00
Lenghten Chambers To 3" (subject to approval - each) $60.00
http://www.briley.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=17#9

Dan Lammers at DL Precision here in Phoenix just charged me $50 to remove one fairly deep and 3 more shallow dents from my 12g Sterly.

You have to decide what you're willing to pay and it sure is tough sight unseen (internet doesn't really count) IF indeed there are no cracks around the side plates and it has factory 2 3/4" chambers even at $800 it's a good deal. I'd offer $700-750 so they don't have to re-list.

Lance:

Just got home from Austin TX to find your messages. I was going to bid on the gun, but the note about relisting put me off (and the fact that I had trouble with the wireless in the motel that went down with all the longhorns partying in the hotel right at final bid time). (Although I just bought the in-the-white fox barrels so I have spent my allowance Wink this month).

I'm not sure what advise to give you - IF the seller doesn't accept the sale - there may be cause to grieve the sale. Gunbroker has strict policies about this.

I don't understand why the seller did not "unlist" the gun when the forearm issue came up - this is allowed to my understanding. I have in the past been watching other auctions and have had other buyers contact the sellers with additional info and the item was delisted and then changed/relisted with correct information. You might wish to email gunbroker and ask.

For the record, I bought a 16 Ms. Elsie from a gunbroker seller for $1150 and have had the forcing cones lengthened at Wrights ($250). Still has choke work to do. I will be calling Mr. Orlen this week.

IF seller wishes to relist and you don't want to press the grievance - agree on a buy-it-now price and "buy-it-now" as soon as he list the gun. (don't tell revdocdrew as he will scoop you Rolling Eyes Wink )

good luck and keep us posted

Oh, if you do get the gun and don't wish to have the BTFE - set a price and PM me. Ms. Elsie may wish to have a change of clothes....

Fireman,
The cost of repairing two dings and replacement forend wood will put the price of the gun over $1200 which is the going price of a solid LC 16ga field grade. Unless you you really like the gun you might consider returning the gun. Kirk Merrington Kerrvile, Tx 830 367 2937 is pretty good at removing dings. Can't go wrong as an LC Smith collector member, welcome to the club.

Mike
