I am interested in purchasing or trading for a Merkel 1620 combo. Case colored, DT w/ straight stock, and Merkel canvas two barrel case.

I have a Beretta AS20E, among others, if anyone is interested in trading.

All offers considered, and all suggests welcome.

EXACTLY. That's the setup I'm interested, except with a straight stock.

Steve Barnett has one for sale @ ~5800.00. I sent him an email asking about a trade, but haven't heard back yet.

Of course, it hasn't even been 24 hours yet...LOL

Thanks for the help. I'll keep looking.

I would surly call him and chat with him on the phone.
It does wonders

What is the configuration of the beretta. I had twelve Asel with 30" barrels that I should have kept but have always wanted a 20. I have a merkel two barrel set but it is an o/u 16/8x57jr and 16/16 cased with scope for the rifle set.

Beretta AS20E, DT, what I'd call a Semi-pistol grip, 26" barrels, LOP 14 7/8 over 1" Kick Eez pad. It's a light 20ga @ approx. 5.5lbs.

I'll try and figure out how to insert a photo.[/img]

Followed your suggestion and had a brief PC with Steve. He is out of town at a private gun show on some island in SC. We spoke briefly and he showed some interest in my Beretta AS20E.

He will connect with me once he returns home. Of course, he is in the business to make money, and not necessarily to make me a good deal on similarly valued shotguns.

It is usually better in terms of ROI to sell something outright (used cars as an example) and put the proceeds toward your desired purchase.

Thanks again for the suggestion.

I'll keep my fingers crossed. Most of the time these high-end gun dealers aren't too interested in make a FAIR trade, but instead are interested in making a killing on every deal.

Hope I am proved wrong on this one.

Steve is a good guy, but he's got to make a profit or he can't stay in business, so yes, you'll always come out ahead buying straight up without a trade- in.

Steve returned from his SC gun show and viewed the photos that I had emailed him.

To that end, he sent me an email stating "I like the gun what do you purpose?"

Since he and I had already talked about a trade that included the Merkel 1620 he had listed on his website, I would have preferred that he be a little more direct and tell me what he had in mind.

But alas he didn't.

So, my reply was that I was interested in purchasing a Merkel 1620 combo with makers case, and that I would like to sell the Beretta AS20E outright or trade it for a Merkel combo.

The Merkel combo on his website is listed for $5750.00 plus shipping. However, I found another 'new' old stock 1620 combo for $5200.00 (including shipping). Plus this other Combo is being sold by a fellow upland bird hunter.

The fact that the 2nd combo is ~800.00 cheaper, the directness of its' owner and the possibility that we could do a hunt swap (my Mearns quail for his RG) makes my preference clear.

I have dealt with Steve in the past trading several shotguns for a used CSMC Fox sub gauge . I knew what each shotgun was worth and realized he had to make $300-$500 or thereabouts on each gun traded . I was happy with the deal then and even more happy now knowing the value of the CSMC has skyrocketed .

Thanks for the feedback.

I LOVE scalloped box locks... especially the CSMC sub gauge ones.
