Has anyone tried loading up some of the 1,550 7/8 oz steel loads (or any other steel loads for that matter) to see if they cycle in the new A5? I didn't know if the speed would compensate for the lighter weight. |

I'm waiting on a new A5 16, hopefully coming in this week. I have a half box of steel reloads I was going to run through it (the load is listed over 1600 fps), so if I can get out this week and shoot, I'll let you know. |

C16,
I ran about a box of reloaded steel #7s through my Sweet 16 this past quail season. My reloads are from Lyman's 5th, and are much slower than 1500 fps. I don't have the 5th in front of me right now, so I don't remember the exact fps, but its more like 1200 fps with about 22.0 grains of STEEL powder behind them. Pressure is also low, less than 8,000 as I remember.
Anyway, they ran the SW16 fine, no failures to eject. I did have a couple of failures to feed the 2nd round, but those were attributed to badly burred crimp edges on some beat-up Fiocchi hulls hanging on the chamber mouth. Not the gun's fault. I also shot about a box of Win CF lead reloads (1 oz. Herco) and a box of Herter's Dove and Quail with no issues.
My guess is the new Sweet will run 1,500 fps steel loads just fine. 100,000 shot guarantee, remember! |

Just got done running my new A5.... zero problems with my 1560, 7/8 oz steel reloads. Just a fabulous gun. Shot 2 boxes of steel reloads, 5 boxes of Remington game loads, no failures whatsoever. Shot two rounds of trap for score, went 48/50... can't wait for next season to start! Have the IM and LF tubes on order and will be spending the off season patterning. |
