This is one of those guns that if you have to save for it, you can't afford it!

So the same folks are building "real" Foxes and not really real Savage Foxes deemed overpriced at 1/5 the asking price of a "real" Fox? Makes sense to me! |

I talked with Lou at CSMC today about 16 ga plans for the new A model. He said the decision was made by Savage to do the initial introduction of the gun in 12 and 20 only, but if that is financially successful, plans are to introduce other gauges including the 16. Personally, I don't see a big market for a $5000 non-Fox A grade, but I've been wrong before. Lou said if it did happen, it would probably be 2 to 3 years down the road. When I asked about the possibility of getting a 16 ga with a single trigger, semi-pistol grip (round knob) stock and semi-beavertail fore end he quickly directed the conversation to the RBL and the fact I could get that gun built now for the same money. A lot of discussion about Purdey lockups versus rotary bolt, single trigger designs and other such stuff. It has got me thinking about an RBL though. |

A 16ga with 30" barrels and 2 triggers on their 20ga O/U model 21 frame would be nice |

That would be cool. How many years has it been since a 16 O/U was built state-side? |

From what I've learned on line over the past few years, the concensus is the action and barrel blocks used to make these guns are from SKB--not that it's a bad thing. SKB SxS barreled actions are pretty well made based on my own experience w/ my old 20 ga Model 100. I'm not certain entire SKB barreled actions are being used for these guns though, but I would not bet against it. |

SKB has been out of production for several years. I think the real story is that the design is SKB inspired. During my discussion with Lou at CSMP, he stated their single trigger was the SKB design and that other features were SKB copies. SKB only made SXS's in 20 and 12 gauges and the fact that RBL's are available in 28 would rule out just obtaining the parts from SKB.
All that aside, the SKB SXS was one of the more successful designs and has proven to be relatively trouble free over the years. You could do a lot worse than copying the SKB design features. |
