A problem or not?

Thanks.

Just making some trap and skeet loads.

Ditto on byrdog's reply. As far as I know the Rem wads are more or less interchangeable with crimping being the key. I load essentially the same thing in Win CF hulls (27.5 gr instead of 25 gr HS-6) with SP wads for pheasants and get good crimps. Since Rem SP (GL) hulls have more volume, I think you should do fine with the load.

Just making some trap and skeet loads.

Lymans #2 lists that load with the SP-16 at 10,330 LUP. I'd shoot a few and look for any overpressure signs, usually however the R-16 and SP-16 can be interchanged with no problems as was stated.

Send me what you loaded and I will shoot them during some skeet practice. I will let you know how each and everyone of them preform!

Very Happy

The Remington R16 and SP16 wads are first generation designs which were developed for use with flake, disc, and stick powders. The wad base design is--well-- basic. Laughing

Both the R16 and SP16 are serviceable wads but not quite as efficient as later wad designs like the WW AA wads and the Remington Premier/STS target wads like the Figure 8 types. These later wad designs have hemispherical wad base cups which provide a better gas seal and a more efficient combustion chamber configuration, especially when using ball type powders (think Dodge Hemi here).

The only difference between the R16 and an SP16 wad is the shot cup depth. The R16 has a slightly shorter cup w/ a slightly longer cushion section and vice versa. The OAL and wad base cup designs are identical. Based on my own experience, I think you'll find peak pressures and velocities will be just about the same if all else is. So if the load crimps well, then the ballistics should also be good if the load design is well thought out.

Hope my input helps you sort it out. Good luck.
