For those of you who make your own lead shot; is it a PITA or an enjoyable pass time? The videos online make it look somewhat interesting and not too difficult. I have a bunch of lead & a deep mechanical background and considering making my own shot. Looking for experienced first hand feedback.

Any input appreciated, thanks in advance...

Doggai had a system for making shot that was semi-industrial in size and scope. Haven't seen John post in a while and hope he is okay. He offered the system to anyone who would pick it up. He also sold off his guns. Gil

I can get 50 lbs of lead shot for $85.00 delivered from Gamaliel . I dont think you could make it for that unless you have a source for free clean lead. I dont want to discourage any one from trying something new. I looked at this and I had to consider the health risk to me from lead fumes and to the dogs from anti freeze.

Don't use anti freeze. Just use the cheap Dollar General or Family Dollar liquid fabric softener. Not the concentrate stuff.
Works great.

Thanks for the input, good stuff, considering not reinventing the wheel + fabric softener would probably smell a ton better than antifreeze.

Just took 25,000 lbs of lead ballast, 65lb ingots out of a ship, lead anyone for your shot maker?
