Saturday here was cloudy, muggy, 60 - 65 Deg F. Shot one grouse & saw one other & heard a couple others flush from the Pup not knowing how to handle them yet.

With all the 57% drum count increase talk I would have thought limits in short order would be the norm Wink

I'll wait for cooler temps but looking forward to heading out and see how the young dog does this year.

Drum count aside. Your Fall population depends largely on successful hatching & a decent brood survival rate. The DNR likes to publicize the drum count to help sell licenses IMO. Too early to tell much yet about real population this year.

Spent the last 3 days grouse hunting in northern Minnesota. Counted up actual hunting hours and came up with 17. Sunday 0 seen or heard, Monday 6, Tuesday 5. Hope this isn't a peak year the DNR is calling it. 1 woodcock seen but not open til this Saturday.

Gentlemen,

Wait till the weather cools of a might, then give it go. I believe you will see a big difference in the bird contact with the cooler weather.
