Okay folks. BPI is an interesting conundrum. They sell VP 80/ PT 1680 wads but only have steel shot data for powder that is not made anymore. Not cool.
So, what I am seeking is a 7/8 oz. or 15/16 oz. steel shot load using the aforementioned wads. I have Herter's/ Cheddite hulls and older Federals in considerable quantity. Since these wads fit tight in those hulls, Longshot powder would be great, but I am not averse to Alliant Steel or Blue Dot either. Have CCI, Fed, Cheddite, and Win primers.
Anybody able to help out? Thanks. |

Thanks! I actually called BPI today and they did not find this!? I can only wonder. You would think they could find their own data. |

I use the Federal 7/8 load from lyman's 5th and it works great. |

As with anything BPI, they do make things confusing. Am I correct that the Multi Metal 16 was actually the VP80/ Pt1680? I think I saw that in their listing description once upon a time. |

I don't think the MM wads and the PT1680 wads are the same, nor can the data be interchanged. "Replacement" in this case means "this is what we're carrying for your use now", not "use same data".
I second the 50204-621R load from that wadsheet, of about 50 steel shot loads I have in my spreadsheet for 16ga, that is the only one I've hightlighted in green as "the best". In fact, that load was the basis for the heavier test loads I sent in for pressure testing with Precision. I'll send you a PM. |

I used the 7/8 oz. recipe that calls for Longshot. The load seemed rather hot at 11,000+ psi (claimed). It was a buffered load recipe. I omitted the buffer (usually adds 1,000-2,500 psi depending on a host of variables) and backed the load down by one grain of powder as well. After all, BPI data is not known for being mild and is reputed sometimes hotter than claimed.
This morning I tried it out on a pair of geese, a mallard drake, and a fox. All died. My Lefever performs nicely with the load. Off to Kansas I go. |

Any hunting spot that lets you shoot geese, mallard, and fox, is a good spot! I'd stay there instead of Kansas |
