Looking at a robust #222 tomorrow with pitting on the receiver. The shotguns seem well thought of. Worth it to renickle the receiver? I'll be into it fairly cheap.

According to Mournetas book, the 222 was first introduced by MF in 1946 and sold every year until 1980 when production ceased on the Robust. What is the condition of the barrels regarding pitting, inside and out?
They are good guns. MF had wide mail order distribution in France; it was the Sears & Roebuck of France. While not common here in the US, beginning in 1913 through the end of run in 1980, MF made close to 900,000 Robusts from low to high grade. It wouldn't surprise me if the cost of re-coating exceeded the present value of the gun, and if that didn't deter you, you would be throwing good money after bad if the barrels were not in good shape. Based on the degree of corrosion evident on the action of that gun which to me is a red flag about care, I would be concerned about the rest of it . Gil

Jim, I would not buy it considering the condition. You can find way better Manufrance Robusts.

As Gil said, if it looks that rough on the outside, odds are that it has not fared well on the inside.

It's not as bad as the pictures look. It also had a barrel dent that was also scratched. I ended up passing for now.
