It's been very cold here for the last week but it warmed up yesterday so my squirrel hunting buddy and I went on a squirrel safari, following the creeks on some family land of his. They are mostly on the ground now and it was a bit like rabbit hunting. Think we saw 13 total and I ended up with 5 and he collected 3. I used my 16ga 870 "turkey gun", with some old Super X #5's.

Cheers TV show.
Sam: You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
Woody: You can catch the most flies with dead squirrels.
How true.
I got a JC Higgins .410 when I was 9. My dad took me squirrel hunting and I bagged 2 or 3, I guess that was my first real hunt, not counting running around with my BB gun. |

I started off at squirrels with a .410 H&R Topper, it worked just fine. This year we started in using .22s and when going to an area that requires shotguns realized I need a .410 again! Two of us used 20ga guns, I got no shots but my friend picked up 2 and they were not shredded like he'd feared. I carried 5's, think they're probably ideal, but if I finally get a Model 42 expect 6's will have to do. Hope to have some days as good as yours! |

It's almost the end of PA archery season so I sat in the tree stand this morning, never saw a deer but both fox and gray squirrels were out in force. I have to start taking an arrow for squirrels along. |

Dad wouldn't let me hunt them with a shotgun. Only two times I have killed squirrels with a shotgun, both times when I was on a rabbit/quail/squirrel combo hunt. After cleaning the ones shot with a shotgun I know why. |
