I just received my bismuth #5 yesterday. I can't say that I'm very impressed with the material. The pellets are not smooth or round. The Winchester Bi shot i I had from years ago looked just like it was supposed to, but this stuff is not very regular at all. |

At a buck 32 a pop, just for the pellets, I am loath to use a bunch to pattern them. But I would hate to waste them on poorly patterning loads too. Such a conundrum for cheapskates like me. |

Do you have or have access to a piece of scrap carpet? If so, maybe hang it behind your patterning target and retrieve the pellets.
We had an indoor/basement shooting range growing up and used several leaves of scrap carpet hung in an old crate to catch the BB's & pellets, and (when M&D weren't home ) occasional 22 short, worked pretty well.
BTW; we recycled... the thousands of retrieved pellets along with scavenged wheel weights made great fishing sinkers & the BB's went right back into the guns.
To those so inclined...please spare me the exposure to lead/indoor shooting hazards diatribe, thank you. |

a friend of mine used to use drapery material, hanging from a rod so that the material folded back on itself and would yield to the striking pellets, which would be stopped by the first or second drapery, falling to the ground, upon which a sheet was laid so that the salvaged pellets were easily collected. |
