Anyone loading down range with 1oz in cheddite hull. Plus it seem like price of hull & wad is increasing in price. I 've been looking for Rio hulls but everyone's out of stock.
Any suggestion?

Don't remember anyone using the DR16 for 1 oz-maybe Researcher?. It's niche seems to be 3/4 &7/8oz in cheddites and Federals. Like OW, I've switched to the sporting 16 wad from Ballistic products part # 072sg16 for 1 oz in fed's and cheddites(Thanks Jeff) Have you tried using the search tab here?

As much as I like and use the DR16 I don’t like it for 1 oz. loads.

I like the Gualandi wad for 1 oz. best in the Cheddite hull.

Mike Campbell loads 3/4 to 1 oz in the same hull with the DR16 he had cut away examples of each.

I know a few folks loading and shooting the 1 oz with the wad , it patterns well in some loads of that weight and not so well in others.

13/16 oz was The perfect load Ole Ben and I came up with , I will see with Ben on that , I am a cheap skate therefore I will keep shooting the 3/4 oz loads , with a few 5/8 oz thrown in for measure .

I am going to load up the loads of 1/2 oz @ 1800+ fps that IFL 16 worked up and Woodcock took to Saskatchewan to use on the Huns .

Have yet to try them Ron said before he passed away that I Really Need To Try This Load.

Thanks Larry and Ron I will try them this year in the Dakota's.

Miss visiting with you guy's may you never run out of birds or shells.

Regards, Nick

hey , looky here , we got Nick out of hibernation !! ... got to say , I load 365 grns of shot most of the time , just don't have a need for the speed most of the time . Since I cracked my arm testing Bizz loads , I've even dropped down to 3/4 . 12ga , 16ga, 20ga , and 5/8 for my 28's . I am VP of a trap club that had 5 AA shooters 2 yrs ago , and the best fight you can get started is dropping trap loads from max . I only shot a few rds the last few yrs due to time constraints , and just started again . One would think that load in 12ga is a handicap - NOT !! I've had more smoked birds with that than ever before . Straight full coked 1100 mag barrel . For 30 yrs now , I , like Nick , have led the parade for smaller loads . The INT Trap teams keep proving we are right . Same works for any shotgun shooting including turkeys . (way less ouch factor , try my 16 ga target loads and have someone stick a Super Mag in randomly !!) Sad Sad

Mr. Bill,
As stated above the SG16 works fabulous for 1 oz loads. The legs of the DR16 have to be uber compressed to make it work. You can make it fit, but then its akin to putting 2lbs of poo in a 1 lb bag.

I use the DR16 mostly for 7/8 oz and a few 3/4 oz loads.

The 7/8 oz are perfect for clays....but that isn't anything new!!!

Started to load some new Fiocchi and Cheddite hulls and the wad is too deep, 1oz. of shot is no where near the crimp line. The wads are Z16 and SG16, need something to raise the shot. Is it ok to add some felt, below the shot, of course some of the shot will be beyond the shot cup. My powder charge is 18gr of Universal. This has to be a common problem with brand new hulls. I took apart one if the Herters shells, it has a little bit longer wad, but the powder volume is the factor. They have some blueish green powder, very large flakes, thus raises the wad to an appropriate level. I am looking for some guidance on the exact components that will result in a correct crimp. Thanks in advance.

Mike

BPI has loads

From their powder volume you may need to pad it a bit or add the overshot card with only 18gr.

I do use the DR wad for 3/4 oz at trap when I'm on a partner piece protection round. When I'm the 1st shooter it gives my partner large pcs to shoot at. Otherwise I shoot 1oz using claybuster 16 wad. I like the way claybuster fingers covers the complete shot colloum. All though I use a filler over the powder to get correct crimp. With the claybuster I don't get barrel scrub. Can also pack 1-1/8 nicely if wanted. I do sometimes just to see how the breaks look.

Ched Hull 18.2gr Green Dot SG 16 1 oz load fits and crimps well. Have been using this since day one.
