Bob hunt in the Panhandle of texas.
We hunted on Joe's family ranch on the Brazos Southeast of Lubbock. We used singleshot hammer guns to conserve the birds. We had a drought this spring and the birds in this part of the world are somewhat sparse. I used my 16 gauge Ebral Brothers - 31" damascus barrels, 5 points of choke, 4-1/2 pounds. I shot 1 ounce of #7s. Joe used a Tisdall 12 gauge - damascus barrels, about 5-1/2 pounds, I think it is choked 17 points and I think the barrels are 31-1/2" long. I keep trying to convert Joe to 16 gauge but he is hard-headed (beside being tight). Oh well, some people catch trout with a #22 parachute Adams, others with dynamite.
Here is a picture of Joe going to kick up a Bob the rascally creeping Britanny Beau had pointed. The big-butted Brie is out of the shot but she is sneaking up trying to steal Beau's point and get a leg up on Beau on the retrieve (if you doubleclick the pictures they get bigger):
This is a different point:
This is the Ebral 16 with a hen I took with it:
again with a Bob:
One last gratuitous pointing shot:
Joe shot a picture of me kicking up the birds during the point - it shows me raising my gun and several Bobs coming up. He gave me several excellent pictures on a CD. Unfortunately I don't have th skill to post them here. Maybe he would be so kind as to post some of them.
Here is a link to my photobucket site. You are welcome to browse around.

Great photos Mike! I like the pheasant pics. And Texas is obviously a good place to live..........take guns into the front yard in California for photos and see what happens. These liberal non-hunting anti-gun idiots would call the FBI, ATF, local agency and anyone else on their speed dial. |

Hi Ray:
The 16 Ebrall Brother I used is an English gun, extractor, straight grip. I am at the office as I write but I think it was "made" in Liverpool. I have had the gun for a year and a half - I got it from Charlie Pflueger at "Hill Rod and Gun". Charlie is a straight up guy - very trustworthy. My friend Flintsteel says it was probably made in the 1880s. It is a cool elegant gun and I surprised myself how well I can shoot it. If the dogs were on point we cocked the hammers before we kicked up the birds |

Sorry about the unfinished post above - I had postus -interuptus. I was summoned home.
I did manage to shoot a couple of Bobs I stumbled across. That is the gun was uncocked and a bird got up unexpectedly and I was able to cock it shoot the bird. I missed a lot more of those than I hit.
I said Liverpool but now that I am home i can see it says Shrewsbury. How would you like to be married to a Shrewsburian?
Joe's 12 ga Tisdall seems very similar to my gun. It is also English made. Maybe Joe will pipe in with info on his gun.
I found out the other day Joe does own a 16 gauge. A beautiful old flintlock double. This is the thread about it on the doublegun forum:

Thanks for your interest!

Mike, great pictures. Seeing them, makes me homesick for that mesquite brush country and hunting bobs in it. I spent about 12 years hunting it and went through two generations of pointers doing it.

THanks John. I quail hunted more than fifty days last season. This year we didn't have a great hatch and I have been using pheasant hunting as a substitute - kind of like heroin addict on methadone.
In order to ease up on the Bobs and still hunt Joe and I have been taking turns shooting each point. That leaves the other one free to take pictures. I have taken more hunting pictures this year than the rest of my life put together. I have discovered that it is just about as much fun taking pictures of Joe missing as it is missing the bird myself.
