Here is my great old Browning A5, Standard 16 gauge with original 2 3/4 inch chambers; nicknamed "Miss Piggy" . Based on its SN X8309, it was made in early part of 1947. The gun is fully functional with no mechanical issues of any kind. I recently replaced the action spring and recoil spring so nothing needs to be done except to use it.
Equipped with Herters adjustable choke that although many dislike their looks, works exactly as advertised. I found that if I did my part and setting it on the Imp Mod, it would vaporize targets from the 27 yard line in Trap.
A crack in forend (not uncommon on these) as shown was properly repaired and has not moved since then. Wood is otherwise in great shape. Finish on left side of receiver more faded than right. Not sure why.
Equipped with sling swivels and Miss Piggy is ready to go hunting for whatever as you will have the right choke regardless.
LOP 14 1/4 inches to 1/2 inch solid pad
DAC 1 5/8 inches
DaH 2 1/4 inches
The barrel is approximately 22 inches to the back of the adjustable choke and 27 inches overall.

Some have asked why she is known as Miss Piggy. It is because she has NEVER balked at anything I have ever fed her. She is as reliable as gravity!

In discussions with resident expert on the Browning A5, fn16ga, I discovered that this is a quite rare version of the Sweet 16 that is not marked on the side of the receiver as a "Sweet Sixteen". The evidence is that the Sweet Sixteen had several things done to it to reduce its weight from that of the Standard 16. The following are all present on this gun.
1) It has the milled cuts to the bottom of the receiver.
2) It has the barrel ring drilled with holes.
3) Upon closer examination, I can see a very slight trace of what was once a gold plated trigger.
I am not going to remove the stock to see if the wood was channeled out as was also done on the Sweet Sixteen once again to reduce weight, but it would not be surprising to find that it was.
From those discussions with fn16ga, I learned that only during a brief period of approximately 6 months in 1947, did some Sweet Sixteens go out that were not identified on the side of the receiver. Fascinating stuff and upon shipment to "hayseed", he will have acquired a rare Sweet Sixteen that is part of that early group in 1947.
Thanks to fn16ga for the indispensable help in accurately identifying this early "unmarked" Sweet Sixteen. |

No need to remove the stock, just take off the buttplate. |

You are obviously right and I actually had come to know that about the stock on the Sweet Sixteens. I have owned 4-5 Sweet Sixteens and one that was a Standard 16. However, it is a moot point at this stage because the gun will soon be sent to the buyer, "hayseed". I also don't want to mess with the recoil pad any. Since all the other weight reducing/identifying features of a Sweet Sixteen are present; it seems to me to be unnecessary to prove it is an unmarked Sweet Sixteen. Thanks for the input. |

Just received Miss Piggy from Oyeme. Transaction was very fast on his part and his contact was excellent. He was more worried about the transaction than I was. He even provided written and printed information on operation and settings. Great to work with. Thanks Bill |

Thank you Eric for kind words. I was just concerned because the dealer took so long to pick up package.
It is good to know that Miss Piggy is going to someone who will give her a good home and will "feed" her regularly. LOL |
