Headed back to ND this fall to hunt pheasants. What's your opinion on Fiocchi Golden Pheasants Nickel Plated 1 1/8 oz #5. About 1300fps? Thanks |

They work great...when they go off. Old and Japanese Sweet 16 and Citori 16 will fail to ignite primer more often than I care for, quit using them and Fiocchi primers in my loading.
But if ftf not an issue for your guns, they will drop birds. |

Haven't used them in the 16, but it's all I and my extended family used for several years when carrying the 12. I've still got an unopened flat of them for the 12. 1 3/8 oz-5s, absolutely hammers those wild public ground birds we hunt. |

Effective shells. A little stiff for vintage guns.
Used them in both my Citori, when I had it, and in one of my heavier side by sides without any issues. |

They never look good on the patterning board, but they knock down birds very well. |

I have heard this before, putting question to the notion that patterning tells whole stories, but they obviously work and well. I have a box of them but have yet to try them on paper or feathers. |

Fantastic shells for chukars and pheasants. |

I tried some a few years ago to use for turkey hunting. They showed the poorest pattern out of 6 different brands and kicked the hardest.
Sent them down the road in a trade to a fella that loved them. |

Used them exclusively last year in SD on Phez in my superlite Citori. They killed with authority, made me look better than I am. I didn't pattern them, just took'em hunting. |

Old thread. The Fiocchi Golden Phez won't usually eject from my Kings Ferry Ithaca Model 37. The "brass" expands into the extractor slots on each side and the empties won't come out of the barrel. I need to take the barrel off and push them out with a stick. Its tough to shoot a double that way. The Fiocchi Hi-Velocity loads do the same thing.
They Fiocchis eject just fine from my 11-48 and Model 31's. They've taken several pheasants for me. I switched to Remington Express, but I shoot mostly non-tox now at game now.
I hope you have/had good luck in ND. |

On my western bird hunting trips, I use Fiocchi Golden Pheasant #6's for sharptail, chukar and huns and use the #5's for pheasant. I shoot SXS's of various manufacture and never experienced any FTF or failure to eject. I load #7 NP in Cheddite hulls for my wild quail hunting. |

Back in the mid-2000s I bought a new BPS 16 gauge and some Golden Pheasants about the same time. I normally carry nothing but Winchester/Western CF reloads on an out-of-state bird hunt (due to reliability), but took some GPs along on a trip to Kansas soon thereafter. Had several Failure to Eject issues with them--straight limbless sticks for ejectors are not always handy on the Great Plains.
I don't believe I've had any of my other guns that I've used FTE with GP's--my old Auto 5 eats them like candy. And they do kill pheasants very well.
That particular BPS has had a few FTE issues with all brands of straight walled Cheddite-type hulls, but never with CF's or Remmies.
Probably the gun rather than the shell. If your guns shoot them well, enjoy! |
