Mike,
I converted to Universal and never bothered with 20/28....not for any particular reason other than I had already developed the loads I wanted with Universal.
The only loads that I know about using Remington hulls and 20/28 are on Old Hunter's spreadsheets. They were done by a fellow Sorrentino, 15.5 grains of 20/28, using Win, Ched and Rem primers, DR16 and 7/8 oz of lead. pressures are 5700 to 6200 and the velocities are 1100 to 1125.
I have about one year worth of experience with the 'new' Unique and 7/8 oz. loads. I like it and it didn't soot up my 1100 like the 'old' Unique.
Kind of a nice load really.
Remington Hull
Winchester 209
20.0 grains Unique
CB0078-16 wad
7/8 oz. of lead shot.
This is a takeoff of a Unique 1 oz. load. I have no idea of the velocity but it kills pen raised pheasants just fine. I also used it for Sporting Clays. It does cycle the 1100 without a glitch. |

I loaded Unique for many years beginning with 20ga and handgun loads for 38, 45, 10mm and 44spec. before I used it in my 16ga. It always worked great in my handgun loads and metered well in my powder measure. I found it to be clean burning in the handgun but the 16ga loads did get a little dirty.
I have since switched to Ramshot Silhouette powder for my handgun loads and have been experimenting with Vectan powders in my 16 and 20ga loads with good success. |

I worked up a new pheasant load using Fed hull, 209A, 21.7 gr. Unique, CB16 wad and 1 1/8 oz nickel 5.5's. Should be about 1220 FPS. Can't wait to try in Nebraska end of the month. |

Larry Brown submitted at least one, 2 3/4" Herters hull, Cheddite 209, 17.3gr 20/28 and DR16 with 7/8oz of lead shot. Avg 7420psi, 1182fps. |

Unique and 20/28 are very close in burning rate and can be substituted for each other by weight. However, 20/28 is more dense, so a given powder bushing will drop a greater weight of 20/28 than Unique. I have used both at the same weight in the 16. The only difference is the space between the shot and the hull mouth if the same wad and shot charges are used. 20/28 was developed to be used in the new Winchester 28-gauge HS hull when stack height proved to be a problem with traditional charges of Unique. |

Lyman 5th - Federal 209A 19.5 Grns of Green Dot, Rem SP16 wad,1 oz. of shot. 1257 FPS, 10,700 PSI. I don't like Remington wads in Federal hulls because of powder migration. Someone with a lot of knowledge that I trust suggested dropping back 1 or 2 grains of powder and using a nitro card over the shot. I went to 18 grns and everything is good IMHO. |

Don't you mean put a nitro card over the powder to stop migration? |

Isn't an Over Shot card enough to keep the powder from leaking? |

I’ve loaded some 7/8 and 1 oz 20/28 loads in Cheddites and Federals. Have to look in my reloading log to see how much powder, what they chronographed at and how it burned. I did settle on a 1 oz GD load, but I have a fair bit of GD to burn up. I can dig it out if anyone’s really interested.
