I have a good supply of "2-3/4" 16 gauge 2-1/2 dram 1 ounce Fiocchi factory "Game Loads" once fired hulls. I had three flats of these that I am now reloading. Thing is...the hulls measure 2-5/8" NOT 2-3/4". I've had to adapt my MEC loader to get a crimp (with pennies in the crimp stations!)
I have only a couple recipes for 2-5//8" Fiocchi hulls from the 16 Ga Reloaders Group. These are 7/8 ounce loads that use International Clays and SG-16 with Fiocchi primers and are very good.
I would like to find a one ounce load for the same hull for game shooting.
First question-has anyone reloaded these 2-5/8" cases?
And, What can I do to come up with a 1 ounce load for these hulls? |

Most if not all of my short hull loads are exactly the same as my 2.75" loads. All fit into short hull, but I Roll Crimp my loads. |

I roll crimp mine too with the exception of paper hulls and fiber wads. I can adjust the height of the wad(s) and crimp those. |

I have rolled my paper hulls too.
Have maybe 100 unfired ones left I think.
Don't need them at the moment,
Be quail hunting tomorrow, but have more than enough shells to get me through rest of season, quail, pheasant both. |

I have reloading data for those hulls and have reloaded them for my Model 12.
Fiocchi hull
CCI 209 Primer
22.0 grains Universal
Gaulandi SG-16 wad
1 oz. lead shot
Fold crimp
FPS 1270 PSI 9340
Fiocchi hull
CCI 209 Primer
19.0 grains Unique
Gaulandi SG-16 wad
1 oz. lead shot
Fold crimp
FPS - 1146. PSI 6,800
Fiocchi hull
CCI 209 Primer
20.5 grains Unique
Gaulandi SG-16 wad
1 oz. lead shot
Fold crimp
FPS - 1220. PSI 8,000
I would not hesitate to use a different primer. Winchester 209 should be just fine. |

Little Creek,
You will have to either add a small spacer under the hull at the precrimp and final crimp stations or make some real adjustments to those stations if you are using MEC single stage reloaders.
I have not used a spacer but someone on the 16 Ga. Society has......Mike Campbell perhaps???
The 3 Sizemaster/600 Jr., adjustments from the settings for 2 3/4” length hulls are:
Drop the crimp starter 1/8”.
Lower the crimp punch 2 turns.
Looking at the final crimp cam, turn it CCW as far as it goes.
You might have to vary from these adjustments for your machine, but they are pretty close.
I am sure you can make the same adjustments on a MEG 9000 or 650 but I have never tried it. |

I load 2-5/8" and 2-1/2" hulls with a standard MEC 600 JR. All I do is put about 3-4 pennies in each of the crimp stations to bring up the hull and get just the crimp I want. Some people use washers...It works! |

been using the 19gr unique load in 25/8 feds for yrs before I even joined here . no worries . all I can say about the Fios , is to check ALL your cases to make sure they are that length . About lost a finger trying to get a full length case out of my M12 while on the prairie , they are DIFFICULT as they are the full length 70mm . (should be able to get 7/8 load in with zero wad pressure if wanted . |

Ditto, so much easier to add spacers than reset the station settings. Once the stack of spacers is dialed in I wrap w/tape and label accordingly for the next session. I do this as well with a large stack of washers on my 10ga press loading a 2.5" 1oz target load on a 3.5" machine looks funny but works fine. |

Putzie .... exactly ! do the same thing with my 10's - it DOES look funny ! I always use the flat side up . Not superstitious about too many things , but finish crimping on a protrusion makes me a little nervous ! |

I wouldn't call that superstitious, more along the lines of smart.
Happy Holidays to you and yours Bill. Haven't been shooting the 870 much, Quackers taste a lot better than orange/black clay but that will change soon. |

I am not a fan of the Fiocchi 16 gauge hulls. The crimp area seems to split very easily.
I recently cut several down to 2 1/2" as I often with do with worn Cheddite Hulls.
I made a short kit for my MEC press by cutting a piece of 1/4" plywood to fit under the last 3 stations. To install it, simply pull up on the column spring, remove the shell holder, place the plywood spacer, replace the shell holder and release the column spring. You will also note that I mounted my presses over cafeteria trays to control spills.

John , nice set up . What I'd do is take a drill and cut some slight holes where you can see the primer shadows just to make sure they don't turn into a positive protrusion . I've got like 3 bucks worth of change for my stations to do the same spacing . (mixed with washers !) |
