For decades I've been loading the one ounce load from the Winchester Ball Powder Loading Guide in my stock of compression formed Winchester/Western Dove & Quail and Upland hulls. In that most of them are now empty, I was wondering if anyone has come up with a good 1200 fps 7/8 ounce load for them with the DR16 wad? |

I haven't seen any tested loads with Dr wad and the CF hull but I have used this one in the past . You may able to reduce this load and get what you want and still be safe .

boy , Researcher , I'm just not sure you'll be able to fit that load in with a DR . Woodie here , gave me about 400 old Remmie cases with the card basewad . And , having about the same amount of CCI157's am loading them . 16grns GD , and Dr's . Can get 360 grains of shot and it's tight . I haven't volumned out the 2 cases , they may be close . I do set wad pressure too , as they would be REAL tight ! (shot falling out tight ) . If you have the Winchester style wads , you may be best to got that rt. may need a little spacer . |

I have been using the DR16 wad for 7/8 ounce loads in the purple Federal cases with American Select since the DR16 came out, and I've been loading one ounce in the W/W compression formed cases with the WAA16 wad, or in later years the Claybuster clone, Win 209 and 20.5 grains of WSF. The Winchester Ball Powder Loading Guide says 20 grains gives 1165 fps and that 21 grains gives 1220 fps, so I figure I'm close to 1200 fps which is the velocity which satisfies my fevered brain!!
I have half a case of DR16 wads and 3/4 case of CB16 wads.
What components are you guys using for a 7/8 ounce load in the W/W CF 16-gauge hulls? |

Bought a couple bags of Claybuster CB0078-16 wads with the idea of loading up some test loads with 16gr of Green Dot, Win 209 primer & 7/8oz shot in both the WW CF and Rem SP hull to send to Mr. Armbrust for testing.
My purchase of 10K R16 wads is down to its last 2K so I thought I would find a replacement. The CB wad is the same diameter as the R16 plus you shouldn't need a filler.
Tried the DR16 wad but it is larger in diameter and is a very tight fit. Others have reported tipped over powder section of the wads because of the tight fit. I only loaded a box of each so I have very limited experience with the DR16 in the Rem SP and the WW CF case.
Have loaded a couple thousand 7/8 oz. loads with the DR16 in Cheddite cases and they work great. |

I prefer the Claybuster 0078 in my RGL hulls, and would think it would be perfect in your Winchester CF hulls. I'd start with 15 gr. of Green Dot and see what the chronograph says. |

For 7/8oz loads I've really become a big fan of the SG16 wad. 15 Grains of Green Dot makes a very effective mild recoil dove, bunny and target load. Works well in cold weather too. I can load Federal and green Remingtons with no changes to my press.(Mec 600) |

Are there any loads utilizing Red Dot for 7/8 or 1 oz 16 ga? I use Red Dot for my 12 ga trap loads and it would be convenient to use it for 16 ga target or sporties loads.
thanks.

At one time Alliant had Red Dot loads for 1 oz. in a Federal 16 Gauge hulls, but that data is long gone from the Alliant online data center.
Let me look at my old reloading books and see what I can find. |

Do I misunderstand that the WPF/Fed/Fio/Ched are the same hull? or are exactly the same inside?
For those more experienced in loading and testing would you get the same pressure and speed using the same loads in all these hulls? |

I load WPF, Ched, Rio & Fio the same.
Also look for Promo data, it and Red dot are equivalent and can be exchanged by weight but not volume.
