Charles Hubert Smith & Co claimed establishment in 1840, but they were not recorded until 1897 when they occupied 123 Steelhouse Lane, Birmingham. In 1922 the firm was recorded as Charles H Smith, and in about 1924 it became Charles H Smith & Sons. In 1961 the firm moved to 17 Stafford Street, and in 1964 it became a limited company, Charles H Smith & Sons Ltd.
In 1967 the company appears to have closed in order to trade under a new limited company, C H Smith & Sons (Gunmakers) Ltd. In 1970 the company moved to 92 Aston Street, and in 1984 they moved to New Buildings, 63 Price Street. In 1993 the limited company was liquidated and the firm trades today as C H Smith & Sons. The firm appears to have operated as gunmakers to the trade from about the turn of the century.
Other Info
The firm sold cartridges under the names "The Invincible" and "The Abbey".
