I have a bead on a used Merkel. I can see now model designation, the tag says s56 which I believe was a Beretta model, it Merkel-Suhl, Made in GDR,
Great condition, I am curious as to what model it could be.
Pistol grip, no cheek piece, good wood, mod/full which I may have to alter, 26" double triggers, nice looking gun, handles beautifully, albeit a 12ga.

I should have written down the serial number, that might have helped.

Had sling swivels but they are gone, which is okay, can plug hole it will be a shooter not a collector piece.

Does it have the typical Merkel features like the bolsters, scalloped action back, and Kersten? It should be pretty obvious whether it's a Merkel design or Beretta.

Its a Merkel, I think probably a Model 8 but has ejectors.
Stamped on barrel Merkel-Suhl Made in GDR. But no mention of model number.

Ejectors more likely in the model 47.

I would verify the barrels not cut, being as most
if not all 12 gauge guns were 28 or longer.

Also measure the chokes.

chokes were measured, Doesn't appear to be cut barrels. Not sure how I would know, if they were, they did good job.

Its not a lot of money, I am getting more inclined by the minute to buy it.
Have my eyes on a 16ga Merkel, but there is about a 3k difference, but not talking apples and oranges there either.

don't need it, but that has never been a requirement, but have two BSS's in 12ga, one a sporter with 28" barrels, shoot it well, and I have a Ruger Gold Label, that I shoot well, and have new rizzini 16ga that I need to have fitted and shoot it too, so kind of limbo over this deal, just seems too good to pass up.
