I'm presently working in Philadelphia and will be for a couple weeks more. I went to a couple gun shows over the weekend and, while I could find just about anything else, I was not able to find any lead shot. Can anyone in that area give me hard information on where I can buy a couple bags of 7 1/2 for a reasonable price so I can load some target shells when I get back to Maine?

PM me.

Thanks.

Sorry, I cant help. I'm in the same boat as you. The only place that occasionally carries lead shot near me is Cabelas, and they never have 7.5 or 8. It's always 5 or 6.

Have you tried a local skeet/trap club?

I've bought Bismuth from them on several occasions. Good folks to deal with.

It's hit or miss, mostly miss, with KPT for shot. And when they have it, the prices are way high. And Cabelas', as has been discussed here and elsewhere, has dropped lead shot for reloading from their inventory. (Hard to see how they expect to sell all the MECs and Lee Load-Alls on their shelves, but there you have it.)

So.... I wouldn't be asking otherwise.

you ARE a sick man MIKE - pretty practical though ! .... shot is a funny thing . We have a large shooting contingent here , many clubs - trap/skeet/sporting . Our main dist went out of business this past yr and things looked like they were gonna be bleak again . One of the trap shooters decided to grab the mantle . Still easy to obtain . Also had a guy on GB that was selling OK shot with free ship at 50pounds or more . Would love to here the banter around his PO when a larger order was going out with those 50# packs going out ! (PS : Skeettx , do you make yours or buy it ?)

Thank you Skeettx for the picture. Now my wife can see that the few hundred pounds of lead, bismuth & ITX in our basement is hardly an adequate stockpile.

The prices, quality, & delivery to my door for free makes the Rotometal deal better than any in my area. I try to buy from local shops whenever possible but some commodity items just can't be had reliably these days...

If you take a trip to the Lancaster pa area Shyda's gun shop in Lebanon is geared toward reloading components as well as Darryl's gun shop and Richland shooting supply. All are heavy into reloading supplies.

Mike, your "torture of the damned" photo in a round about way reminded me of Doggai who used to make his own shot. I wonder if anyone took him up on his offer of his shotmaking "factory" that would have filled up a large U-Haul truck for sure. Anyone hear from John lately? It's been awhile since he's posted. He was going out of business in the shooting sports and sold a lot of his guns here. Gil

Mine is made for me by a friend
I get wheel weights, Linotype, and range scrap bullets.
I melt them into one pound ingots.
I put 50 ingots into a cloth shopping bag with one empty shot bag.
He makes the shot, graphites it, and bags it. So I get one 25
pound bag for each 50 pounds of lead alloy.

The lead is free to me and I have a good system for melting the scrap Smile
I shoot about 25 pound of shot every two weeks.

16 rounds of skeet/trap x 25 shells x about 1 ounce per shell divided by 16 equals 25 pounds

Mike
