Now that I found out that they discontinued IMR 4756 which I loved for 1-1 1/8 oz in the 16ga and 1 oz loads in my 20ga I've been looking at data for the new IMR blue.

It looks like this may be a good replacement for 4756 for my hunting loads in both gauges.

Any feed back on this would be appreciated

IMR Blue and Blue Dot are the same creature. I use Blue Dot for lead and bismuth field loads.

Thanks, I'll give the IMR Blue a try. I think it may be cleaner burning than the old blue Dot

Longshot and 4756 are remarkably similar. It takes up very little room in the hull. Blue Dot/ IMR Blue are pretty bulky and burn a tad slower. Blue will take up more room in the hull, but won't leak so easily like Longshot does.

I too miss 4756, IMO, a great 20ga magnum powder that metered very consistent and burned squeaky clean.

I haven't tried IMR Blue yet but if "equal" to BlueDot, from my experience, watch your powder drops for consistency and incomplete burn leaving a bunch of unburnt powder flakes in the barrel/action. Tried BD in my RGL 1oz Trap loads and was happy to run out of the little bit I had (inconsistent and filthy) and now enjoy Longshot as a replacement (reminds me of 4756), with the correct component stack up migration (walking form the club house to Trap field) is a non-issue.

Surprisingly enough... they do have quite a few recipes:
https://imrpowder.com/imr-blue/

If you hop over to the IMR Green page though, it's limited to 7/8 oz loads in the RGL hulls.

Cheers!

I like that statement, unfortunately they sure didn't enhance my life by putting the ax to 4756. It's the only real gripe I have ever had with Hogdon.
