Almost universally a reloading bushing will throw less weight that the chart may say. As pointed out, this is to make the attorney's happy and you safe. A scale is crucial to determining exactly what YOUR bushing throws un WHAT CONDITIONS in your reloader - Powder, how much height of powder is in the tube, humidity, whether you have ANY static around, vibrations etc.

If you have a bushing that is consistently throwing low, then you can ream it out a little at a time to get to the load you want.

Most of us learn though, that the few feet per second, that that little extra powder might give you typically wont make a difference.

Then consider that the loading manuals are also going to be on the safe side. For metallic cartridges, it is easy to step up in loads and look for pressure issues. If you are LUCKY with an over charge in a shotgun load, you might see a pieced primer before trouble, but these thin walled barrels are not made for supper pressure.

Consider that to work in a wide variety of shotgun bores, factory loads for sure are built to be on the safe side.

Buy a good scale and check weight OFTEN.

Bob

Good feedback rkittine.

Two scales w/ test weight sit right beside the presses on the loading bench.

And order forms for pressure testing at Precision Reloading are are partially completed w/ the components for each recipe. Just awaiting the new bushings to finalize the powder charges.

Cheers!
