French guild gun? Being un-informed about French shotguns. thought it best to ask here. Been offered this 16ga --not much info other than proof marks shown --no script on barrel tops -- 2 3/4 inch chambers -- Guy is asking $500Canadian -- I'm leaning heavily towards buying it. Comments?

If it’s tight, has good bores, sound barrels, and fits you decently... buy It! |

Unless there is some flaw I don't see, I would grab that right now! |

Looks pretty clean. If it has a tight action and okay triggers buy it. I especially like the white line recoil pad.
I had an old French Guild Gun with no maker markings that I bought in Maine in 2012. It would sometimes double on the right with stout 2-1/2" loads. I adjusted the sears and it was good for several years of grouse hunting and dog training. 5 pounds 10 ounces...Sold it this year. The problem with the sear was actually due to soft steel in use.
Post more info about the gun when you get it!
Good Luck! |

One other thing. The photo of the barrel flats shows the number 65. That probably means the gun originally had 65mm chambers (2-1/2"). Check the chamber length to be sure of what you have. The chambers were likely lengthened or the forcing cone lengthened. It is fairly common to see this done in the US. |

Thanks for the comments folks -- I have a couple of questions for the seller before I commit to it. |
