I am sure that some know about Highby Outdoors.

This is a new company owned by former Cabela’s employee Matt Highby, his dad Dennis was the former President of Cabela’s.

They have a website and every time I have visited the website there is something new.

I believe there might be a return to some of the good kind of stuff that Cabela’s once sold and how they operated.

In plain terms from my narrow minded viewpoint, screw Cabela’s and their parent company Bass Pro Shops.

Hopefully we will have another option again. I have a Cabela’s less than a mile and a half from me and I won’t and haven’t been there in over two years and it is going to stay that way.

Check Highby Outdoors out:

I'd never heard of them before the initial post upthread. They seem like they have a decent selection; no bargains or sales yet that I saw.
At this point, they appear to be a mail-order operation with no brick and mortar store. That's not necessarily a "bad" thing, seeing as how Cabelas started with mail order fishing flies from their family kitchen table.
Wish them luck.

There is quite a bit of info out on the internet about Highby and their trials to get up and running.

It seems their plan is to get established with online orders and then start building store fronts.

I’d be happy with online stuff.

Interesting. As a sales rep for the outdoor industry I called on Cabelas for years until retiring 8 years ago. I worked with both Matt and Dennis, and are both really stand up guys. I didn't know about their new endeavor. I wish them luck and will be interested on their success.

It is a pretty small operation for now, and perhaps a bit redundant given the plethora of online competition. I do think that they are trying to build a new business on the old Cabelas model of exceptional customer service, and I definitely respect that. Bass Pro has of course sued them:

Just one more reason not to do any future business w/ Bass Pro.
