Federal hull,Win or Fed primer (prefer Federal Winchester in a pinch),15 grns Green Dot,SG16 wad and 7/8 oz of shot makes a very nice target and dove load and it's low recoil to boot. Reloading is the way to go in 16 gauge. I can reload these for way under $5.00 a box.

For practice I really like a 5/8 oz. load. Those load best in WW CF (not easy to find anymore) and RGL's in combination with a DR 16 wad.

If I buy factory loads of Federal game loads to start my collection of empty hulls, will any Federal game load hull be acceptable? Are all the Federal game load hulls using brass basses?

All Federal hulls use brass plated steel heads, with the exception of ;
10 Ga
12 Ga Gold Medal (paper and plastic)
28 Ga

Brass plated steel....hmm. Since I haven’t developed my knowledge of reloading shotshells much, where do we draw the line on proper hull head material? I was thinking steel was not a good option for reloading/resizing. Isn’t that why Win AA is less desireable now than it used to be?

Yes, BUT that is all that is available.

And the MEC collet sizer seems to fix most of the issues.

There were compression formed Win AA loads in 16 with brass heads. I still have some. I'd post a picture if I could ever type the linking string correctly...

Carlos, maybe I misled with my comment. There were compression formed AA type hulls but mine are not labeled AA so I can't 'prove' they had AA target loads. Dove & Quail hull - I think I got the photo link correct this time. Ignore the Mark 5, it is there to keep the empty from rolling away...

12 & 20 ga AAHS are not magnetic steel and also Rem STS ... no new 16's are brass ... Keep an eye on feds . The 12's have switched to plastic base wads and do not load exactly the same as paper base wads . They are switching to the same cases as the Estates . Not necessarily bad if you like Chedd style cases - I still like the paper bases best - cushion better .

I was going thru some of my stow away stuff and realized I had several bags of 20ga. ACTIVE wads. I would trade them for 7/8's claybuster wads if anybody is interested.
Thouught i would try trades before trying to sell them at the clubs i shoot at.

HB - check the powder cup diameter against a REM SP . Like the G-wads , they might be the same diameter as the Rems and can use them in the RGLS .
