Gentlemen,

This weekend I spent some time patterning my Crescent 16 gauge double gun, using Poly 2 1/2" SpredR's for my Grouse and Woodcock hunting.

This Antique Crescent 16 gauge throws a beautiful bird killing pattern at 25, 35 and 45 yards, with 8's, 71/2's and 6"s, got to admit the patterns are much better than I thought they would be, covering a 30" circle exceedingly well, with no gaps. Had a few RST SpredR's I tested also and they worked just as well and were softer shooting.

All in all I am totally satisfied with the SpredR patterns out of the newly acquired Antique Crescent 16 gauge double gun, can't wait till Grouse & Woodcock season!

fn16ga,

1 Oz 2 3/4 Dram #6's, 2 1/2" Chamber shell, will have to dig out the #8 & #7 1/2 shells and see exactly what is in the Poly #8 & # 7 1/2 SpredR's. A box of #6's was sitting here beside the computer in the office.

After taking a look at the SpredR boxes it looks like the #8's & 7 1/2's are all 1 oz shells also.

And... I was hoping to see the patterns! It would be a good tool to show people the difference between standard and spreader loads since so many people ask about them. Still have those pattern sheets?

For reference, here are some Polywad spreader load patterns (upper row) in three different guns. Lower row is conventional SG16 loads in same 3 guns.

Brewester11,

Thanks for putting up the pictures of the comparative patterns. What yardage were they shot at.

I never thought to take pictures as I patterned my 16 Hammer Gun.

Brewester11,

Your pictures do show how tight a conventional pattern really is at 20 yards, compared to the SpredR loads, great job sir. Again thanks for posting the pictures. My tests patterns at 25, 35 & 40 yards show approximately the same results with the SpredR shells, the conventional 16 do open up their pattern at 30 - 35 yards however.

Which is why the SpredR shells are great from 20 to 35 yards when gunning Grouse & Woodcock.
