Hello all

I have a friend who is needing some of the OLD Remington 12 gauge "H" wads.

Anyone have any to spare?

Thank you
Mike

Sorry, No, I can not find one, but they look like a plastic short base wad with no petals.

Very close to these

The Rem "H-Wad" is just a plastic over-powder wad with the ability to obturate the same way as the overpowder end of a Power Piston -- a gas seal. Just buy the gas seals from Precison or BPI (most are made by Gualandi). If a recipe calls for the H-wad, those should be almost a direct replacement -- maybe a touch thicker.

Sometimes, when I want the benefit of an obturating over-shot wad, and I need to customize wad column height with fibre wads, I just trim the gas seal end from the plastic unitized wad columns (the integration of the over-powder seal with the cushion spacer and the shot cup) everyone now simply and erroneously but conveniently calls "wads". Add a shot cup rustled from the same wad unit or any other, or a sleeve of some protective wrap for the shot (I like Mylar, cut from clear file folders or overhead projector slides -- no need to buy the outrageously priced Mylar pieces from BPI or others, which still must be trimmed to fit), or no wrap at all if you prefer to use the barrel surface to flatten the sides of the shot that will become flyers (you never know, you might need a "flyer" to get that lucky hit Wink ), and Bobs-Your-Uncle -- you've got exactly whatever you need. Certainly you're not going to want to do that for high-volume loading (target loads) unless you are desperate or have lots of time on your hands, but for the numbers of re-loads typical for hunting that technique is a good one.

By the way, I have more than a lifetime supply of just plain plastic shot cups in 16 gauge, made by Federal. Let me know if you want some and I'll PIF them to you for postage.

Cheers!
Tony

All good

BUT the 12 gauge Remington H wads are less tall and provide more room for a spreader device.

Yup, SkeeTX -- I noted that above when I said the Gualandi gas seals were a little thicker.
