F2F,
Man...your guns are OLD...I'll let you trade with me and you can try some repeaters...I'll suffer by with your tired old SxS guns...it will be rough, but I'll make the sacrifice so you can move into the modern age.

It is just too hot here in N.Ga right now, not bird hunting weather. If I do go dove hunting I'll use my 100 year old 16ga Miller & Val. Greiss SxS, a very nice boxlock with 30" barrels. |

Well I would like to use my 16ga Citori or my 20 ga Citori, but the proof is in the pudding. Or rather the proof is in the dove hunting. 15 shots of 20ga 2 dove, a 20 shots of 16ga 4 dove, an old synthetic 12ga 870 (bought for $60) 13 shots 9 dove including a crossing double. I absolutely hate it. I shoot the 870 the least, put in all my work shooting clays and practice mounts at home with the 16ga & 20ga. So this season several thousand dollars of shotguns will sit in the safe while I go hunting with the ugly duckling. |

mcrewz,
Like it or not most folks can pick up an 870 or 1100 and shoot them fairly well. I know stamped pieces and built on a 12 gauge frame.
I sent my 16 ga. Citori to TronSpace for an adjustable comb......I can finally hit with it. |

MSM2019,
Have many different L.C. Smith shotguns in many different gauges that I both hunt and shoot clays with. I even have a 16 gauge sub collection of Smith and J.P. Sauer guns that get used extensively for Grouse and Woodcock hunting. Walking with these Classic American and Best German guns in the Grouse woods, for well over 40 years, they have become like an extended part of my body, especially while hunting Grouse.

Here are a few of them and a LeFever also.

Started dove season with a Merkel 1620 . It’ll be a different gun every day that I can get away and sit on a bucket with my pup. Next may be a Bertuzzi 410 ? If it’s windy I usually go bigger gauge;if nice I drop down. |

Well for me, if I can catch a break from all the distractions like hurricanes, I’m planning to head to the dove fields this year with my new to me 1947 Browning A5 SW16. After we see how that goes, I intend to try out my 1929 T Bland sxs 16ga which I hope to get back from Woodcock Hill soon, where I sent it for a stock adjustment. When ducks come in, will likely carry my BRNO sxs 12ga going for some woody’s in the swamp. Or I might do something else entirely.... |

What am I using? It's mostly based on whim when necessity doesn't override that! |

T-Bird,
Tell me a little more about your 1940's L.C. Smith Double Gun. Was it passed down thru your family or did you purchase it yourself? I have an 1898 #2 gun, originally a 20 gauge, now Briley sleeved for 28, with Damascus Barrels that I shoot a lot of Woodcock & Grouse with. I hope you use your Field Grade as much as I do my #2 gun, simply fantastic bird guns.

Pine Creek, I bought it a while back. I grew up shooting 16 ga. My Dad gave me a Savage 311 in 1969 that I still have. I inherited his single barrel 16 gauge Savage. This gun is in good shape, had it glass bedded so I could shoot doves etc. without worrying about the stock. It's plain not restored, looks like a 1940 gun and I love it. It's IC/Mod, 28" tubes. |
