T-Bird,
Sounds very interesting, picking up an L.C.Smith without knowing how it was cared for by its previous owners, is always a chancy undertaking. Having the gun glass bedded was a good idea if you plan on shooting the gun a lot. It's to bad you were unable to find an L.C. Smith that you knew proper care was taken with. With proper cleaning and storage I have never seen any of our guns stocks crack, and I have more than a few that are over 100 years old, and get used every year to both Hunt and Clays shoot.
Drop me the SN of your gun in a PM and I will dig out the date it was made, I have most all that information. Glad you like your L.C. Smith double gun.

I just got a picture from Rob this morning of some sharpies and his beautiful 16 ga. AyA #2. Sharptails are another bucket list hunt coming my way now that work is out of the way. I even have an AyA #2 16 of my own, and it's set up for the prairies.

Browing BPS 16 for geese, ducks and turkey.
Franchi SL 16 for grouse and doves this weekend.
Franchi SL for pheasants and sharpies in ND and SD next month.
Hopefully Browning A5 for pheasants in MN, Kansas and Nebraska in Dec. and Jan. |

Sounds like you're set to go Dave Erickson! Good Luck. It seems to be a pretty good year for sharptails. I wish I had an AyA #2 in 16 like yours!
Cheers! |

Thanks, Tony! I’m pretty thrilled with the gun, and it’s a joy to shoot. |

Going out this weekend for sage grouse. Using my late father's Iver Johnson 16 gauge single on Saturday and a new-to-me Stevens Model 220B 16 gauge single on Sunday. Guess I like single shots. |

Trying to make one box of 16 ga. shells last as long as possible? Of course if you put one single in each hand like Billy the Kid, you technically have a double. |

Husky 100 16ga hammer gun for chukars and general upland
Lefever GE f/f 12ga with 2 7/8" chambers for trap, heavy ducks and giant chukars at long range
Lefever GE ic/im 12ga damascus for chukars, light duck duty, unless I sell it
Lefever E grade damascus 16 thumb push for closet queen duty, until I'm done working on it, or at least close enough to make it workable.
All of the above subject to change if I decide to sell some. |

It would be nice to be that ambidextrous, fortunately I am not, otherwise I might try it and look ridiculous...well, more ridiculous. As far as 16 gauge shells go, I have a few factory boxes of old. Tomorrow, Federal purple papers 1 1/8 oz. that I snagged at a pawn shop last year for $5.
Maybe I'll see you out there somewhere Garhart. |

Wish I was going to be there. Sunday afternoon will have to suffice as my "chicken" opener. |

Fausti DEA Round Body 16
AYA XXV BL 12
Browning new Sweet 16 and

Now I just hope there is something to shoot at. |

Hey guys
I leave the 8th of October for Grants Camp for woodcock and grouse
I’ll have my Parker-Hale(Ugartechea) 28 gauge (part of a 20/28 two barrel set)
From there to Montana for some Prairie Chicken (and some Brown Trout)
for a week then Friday to So Dak for the Pheasant opener with my trusty
16 gauge Parker-Hale (Ugartechea)
After many years and too many (ha!) guns these have became my favorites
light ,fast and I’m pretty accurate with them
I didn’t buy them new but I have had them for many many years
Spreader loads for the grouse Kent or B&p for the pheasants
Wish me luck
Joe |
