Predators are blamed for the decrease in game, everything from grouse to rabbits to elk. Nobody ever explains how they managed to successfully coexist for millennia before man came along. We want to assign a finite and tangible cause to the problem because we want to believe it can be fixed or that it’s a temporary issue, whether it be WNV or owls or a wet spring....but these things have always occurred and existed for thousands of years and the animals survived just fine. We are the problem, not owls. Farming, urban sprawl, wildfire suppression...it’s a long list of offenses. |

Chilly,
Yes there are many different reasons, and when they are all added together we have a problem, I pointed out one of the big problems with flying predators, which is a big part of that over all problem.

Wolfchief,
GBE was not going to interview with Jim Fergus for his "HUnters Road" book, until he found out that Jim had spent a couple days with me. The chapter before the GBE interview is about me.
BTW, Pine Creek Dave, I just saw Bob Walkers son and daughter recently--I sure do miss that man, always thought of him as an uncle, but in reality he was a cousin.
Hope you are doing well.

3birddogs,
Harold Merry Christmas to you sir, hope all is well in your neck of the woods, hope your dogs are doing well, about time for a new Ryman/Old Hemlock pup for both of us. No doubt about it we have lost a lot of the old time Grouse hunters and owners. Have contracted Wyssfiresidesetters for a female pup, will have her shipped out to Pa, when she is old enough. Definitely need another new pup to help me with my recovery. Also picked up a new Gordon pup from Clearcut Kennels, should be a fine Christmas around here now.
All the best,
Pine Creek/Dave |
