Cooper has been depressed lately and the long walks we take everyday hasn't improved his mood. We have had lots of ice on top of the snow this winter so we have been walking on a logging road which is in operation this winter. I don't want him hurt , he has two speeds full sprint and stop. So the log is nice but no substitute for what he enjoys most! Every afternoon he just stares at me. So yesterday I took him to a preserve. There was still a considerable amount of snow there and some ice. i had hoped that with the warm spells we have had here there would be less snow. anyway we both had a good time he doesn't care if they are planted or wild. Shot six birds all nice points and six shots out of the A5 16. Got some GoPro footage too. got to figure out how to edit.

He sure looks like a proud, happy guy now. Congrats on getting him out on birds. Hope your wild birds survive the winter.

That's the plan 16'er! Supposed to get snow tonight then cold then a warm up. Wish we had wild pheasants here and too many of my grouse and woodcock coverts are gone built up or mature forest now. Joe

You sure it was Cooper that was feeling the winter blues and needed an outing afield, and not someone else too?

I belong to NSTRA to extend my bird hunting season. My dogs love it. 5 birds planted on 40 acres, 2 dogs with a 30 minute time period. I use my old Velmet 16 skeet/skeet gun. Most runs with these big running dogs are just short of running to keep up. It takes 4 finds, shots, and retrieves or more to win. I ran 7 braces this last weekend in mud and light snow. We came up with one second place. Dogs and I need a rest today. At 78, I feel blessed.

Went Sunday morning again, bit nippy 25 and lots of wind. Friend brought his uncle who had never hunted with a pointing dog before. I was a little concerned as always about safety when hunting with someone new. the uncle was pretty good anyway we had a good day Cooper did well after calming down. They ended up missing 3 but we got 7 or 8.

Soggy socks,

Your dog is not depressed, maybe just bored, a few more upland shoots and he will be fine!

More practice speaking dog language is required!

Soggy Socks,

Joe you got to love a dog that speaks more than just one language. Better keep him away from the computer, cause he can probably read your post about taking him out on Sunday.

This old SM spoke German, English and American Sigh Language fluently! I believe he had his own computer , however I could never find it.

Dave, Cooper took your advice and enlisted the help of his cousin Riley my sons Chesapeake. Together they had a good time, both did well Cooper had some beautiful points and was very steady. My son and I shot 11 birds yesterday in what will be the last preserve hunt of the season I'm sure. It's a nice place albeit not like the wild birds in South Dakota. weatherman says up to a foot of snow here today into tomorrow AM, such is life in the Green Mountains. Joe

Soggy Socks,

Joe I am glad you guys got back out, looks like a great time was had by both dogs and men. Even stocked birds can be fun!
