Does anyone have a recipe for a 1oz 2-1/2” in 16 gauge? I’d prefer a regular crimp other wise I’d just roll them. I’ve done it many times but have a Mec jr now so I’d like to crimp them. |

What are your pressure requirements?
What gun?
Thanks

1927 Sterlingworth. I don’t think pressure is too big an issue. |

Nitro card topped with a couple of fiber wads will give a nice crimp once you get the stack sorted out. Start with a moderate pressure plastic wad load, and no worries. |

I know I'm really late to the party (been gone for months) but I do have a nice 1 oz. 2 1/2" fold crimp load. This load calls for the SG 16 wad. I have actually substituted a WAA16 wad with pre-flared powder cup. How much does that change pressure? I have no empirical numbers but considering the original data, it would take a LOT to get beyond the proof rating of my particular fluid steel barreled gun. Here are the original load specs with the SG16 wad:
Cheddite hull cut to 2 1/2"
1 oz. lead shot
SG 16 wad
18 gr. Longshot
Win 209
1200 fps
7,270 psi |

Garth, I assume you are using a chedddite2 1/2" hull. I have been wanting to load up some 1 oz shells for pheasant. Looks like just what I need. |

Yes, Cheddite hull or Win/Cheddite hull. Fixed my other post. Thanks for catching it. |

One trick I've used to gain a bit more shot capacity is to cut off the small nibs inside the base of the SG16, but I'm not sure what it may or may not do to the pattern effectiveness. That said, lighter charges of Longshot render that unnecessary. I also have some of the SG16 short wads on their way to me from BP, along with some new 2.5" hulls for roll crimping, so I'll give those a try. Should be just the ticket for 1 oz loads with bulkier powders like Universal in Cheddite hulls. |

I bought some new 2.5" Cheddite hulls from BP for roll crimping purposes, and their new SG16 short wads. 19gr Universal and 1oz roll crimped shot fits perfectly, with or without a polywad spreader. The Hogdon web site lists a 2.75" 20.5gr load of Universal and 1oz lead and SG16 at 7500psi and 1165fps. I may need to bump up my load 1gr just to keep the velocity up. This 2.5" load is basically the same as the 2.75" load above but roll crimped in a 2.5" hull. I plan on using it in both my H&H and my Husky damascus 16. Great target load. |

I’ve been using a Star crimped 7/8 load on clays in my Trojan and I’m shocked at the performance. It crimps perfectly on my 600. 19.9 gns of Universal and an SG16 was. |

Swampy16 that’s a good load. I’ve went up to 23 gains with that wad. I have found that any where around 19-19.5 will cycle my A5 but a little harsh for my old sxs. |

I actually thought it was on the lighter side. Should I look for something lighter? I use them in 1927 Sterly and I think my Trojan is 1924 and had a cracked stock that’s been professionally repaired. I put a flat through it two weeks ago. |
