I gave the turkeys a break for a bit this week, spent a day and a half with my son and his family in the northern part of the state. Grandma needed to see the grandkids too. Exercised the trout across the road Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. I did well each time out despite not having exactly what they were taking. Changing the tippets and threading the tiny eyes of the flies that used to be so easy to hit the first time are getting to be a challenge in low light. Went to camp in NY last evening in the heat, Cooper got to do some swimming and dock diving before bed so he was happy. So this morning I hit the fields again for turkeys. Had a hen come by alone at barely 0500 then a gobbler joined up with her and walked by where I should have been sitting against the old hard maple tree. They were out of sight for a bit and at 0545 the sound no turkey hunter likes to hear! Worse than an alarm putt, a loud roar of a shoulder fired 12 ga. from another hunter. I stuck in out till 10, saw a couple more hens then packed it in. Vermont birds are much easier than these educated New York field birds. Two more wake ups and its over for this year, tomorrow my daughter will join me. We will see what happens. |

Been fishing quite a bit apparently lots of people have been, found smooth soled wader tracks where I have not seen them before. hope they are releasing my buddies. Hit the tri fecta yesterday brooks, browns and rainbows. Not the biggest but these are my favorite.
