Again I don’t know anything about A-5’s but if many thought the $5,500 was steep here is another 16 ga at Fieldsport that was listed for $20,000 and is now listed as sold.

That seems hugely high, but it is hand engraved, and very nice wood.

A tad tacky as it sits but the Auto 5 likely comes with a big hat with a purple feather......which might make the sale.

Seriously tho, both collectors and regular folks can live in their own justified world....one reason why the 3" 16 gauge gets kicked around as worthwhile.

You know...

There was a one of a kind 16ga Auto-5 given to the Emperor of Japan in the 1950s or 60s when he toured the plant in Belgium...
They had made a one of a kind Superposed for him, but before they could present it, he remarked that he always had wanted a 16ga Automatic 5.....

Perhaps that's the gun?

A chromium receiver, super light, 16ga Automatic 5.....that's got to be singularly unique.

20k is HUGE....but for that unique of a gun, I suppose its possible

6-14 anywhere else would not be considered super light....it could be considered nice.

Gentlemen,

Each man purchases the guns he likes most, there are a lot of guns that seem to be over priced IMO, however some sportsman pay those prices and are very grateful to be able to purchase the gun, at that particular price.

The open market usually sets the fair prices on most guns. He may find it hard in this case to insure the A 5 for the money he payed for the gun however.

Now if you are going to pay around $20,000 for a fine gun I recommend a nice 16 gauge Purdey self opener made around 1910 or a L.C. Smith A2 Variation 1 two barrel set made before 1913. There are guns worth the $20,000 a man should choose wisely how he spends his money.
