I had some 16ga 31's 20 years ago and sold or traded them off, I want to find one again, was wondering if anybody knew how much lighter that alloy one was compared to the regular steel frame job? They seem scarce.... anybody ever see any, if so, what do they go for in decent shape? Thanks, I'd probably take either one, unless somebody might tell me why one would be preferable over the other.....I remember them being a really nice, reliable, quick handling gun.....

There was a discussion of the Rem 31 recently--one of our members bought one that another member had pointed out.

If you do a search on this board, you'd probably find most of the info you're looking for, except for hard data on weight.

I have a 31L (that's the designation for the alloy receiver). But I don't have a good scale, so I can't tell you what it weighs. I can say that I love the way it handles, and I don't get it out often enough!

I have a 31L & a 31a both in 16 Ga. with 26 " barrels - I don't have access to a quality scale - but by feel and guess I would say the 31L is 3/8ths Lb lighter - much livelier handling.

As to value - I don't really know, I gave 250 for the 31A - which is a very clean 1940 gun, and 200 for the 1947 31L - which has some of the finish worn off on the receiver. I just don't see many 31s, and those that are clean I generally buy Very Happy

I have a 31L 1948 built gun in 20 Ga. that is in 98% condition, I was luckly to find that one.

31s are my favorite pump, and still a bargin for their quality and numbers.

Thanks for the info on them, I really would like to get another, I remember they handled so well....I'm glad to hear they are still a bargain, I'll start pokin around for one, the 26" bbl is appealing to me, too, it'd be great if it was choked IC......

Just bought one that was pointed out by a fellow board member (thanks again Ted). I paid $325 including shipping. Have not put it on a scale yet but is light and handles well. Blueing is about 90%, usual wear on the receiver, some dents in stock. These probably can be steamed out. It was and is a well taken cared of field gun. Has a 28" full choked barrel. Have not even got out to shoot it yet, darn weather. With all the shotguns I have I didn't have a pump anymore and this really took care of that oversight.

Mine has the alloy receiver. Shot a few rounds yesterday when the temp got in the teens. Works fine, shells I grabbed were 1 1/8th loads. I don't think I'd want to shoot a round of sporting clays with it, after 50 rds. shoulder might be a little tender. Was going to try some pasture clays today, but snowing to hard.

have you weighed it? Another guy wrote in to say his went 5 3/4 lbs.... now that is light for a yank 16 of any action type!!

Regarding recoil--my 31L has a compensator on it (and I bought it anyway!), but after shooting 2 boxes, I'm thinking it wasn't a bad idea at all. I always wondered if those things really worked, and I've got to say this one does. It was very comfortable to shoot, and no bruising or soreness. Call 'em ugly, but they do work!
