I’m looking for 16 gauge 5 shot and there aren’t tons of options out there.

One site I found (sgammo) has a couple of options:

250 Round Case - 16 Gauge 2-3/4 Inch High Velocity 1-1/8 Oz Number 5 Shot 1255 FPS PMC Ammo - HV165

250 Round Case - 16 Gauge 2.75 Inch 1 1/8 Oz Number 5 Shot 1310 FPS Fiocchi Golden Pheasant Ammo - 16GP5

The PMC is $99 for a case while the Fiocchi is 169. I’m familiar with PMC making handgun and military caliber rifle ammo, but not shotgun shells. Anyone have experience with PMC shotgun ammo? Anyone have any alternate suggestions for 16 gauge 5 shot? I don’t necessarily need a case, but am willing to take that plunge if the shells are reliable.

Update, it looks like the Fiocchi isn’t in stock anyway. So it’s not a comparison, but should I stay away from the PMC shotshells?

I like the Fiocchi golden Pheasant a lot, Federal make a good load too if you can't find fiocchi have used a few in South Dakota this year a little higher velocity. I got a great deal on it from a guy at Cabelas in South Dakota last year. For me personally i would wait until I could find one of the two loads if I were buying a case. Have you tried rogers Sporting Goods?

I use a couple of sites that help you locate ammunition.

I’m not opposed to any manufacturers, just limited by what is available

I have some PMC 1 1/8 oz 6's I bought at Cabela's about 20 years ago. It's good stuff and the patterns are uniform and dense. They were loaded in the standard Cheddite hull with a B&P wad, and I doubt if that has changed.

I'd be inclined to try the PMC 5's

Rogers sporting goods does have cases of Fiocchi high velocity. I also bought 4 boxes of Fiocchi golden pheasant from sportsman’s warehouse that I will pick up next week in store.

Yes, that’s how I found the PMC stuff.

It's recorded here somewhere in the archives, but at one time another member and I gathered up all of the 1 1/8 oz pheasant ammo we had which included Fiocchi GP, Remington Express and several others. We patterned about 10 loads and the PMC loads gave the densest and most uniform patterns of all of them. They greatly impressed both of us at the time.

Dannyboy,
I shot about a half flat of PMCs 16 gauge shells about 6-7 years ago. Can't remember exactly what they were, perhaps 7 and 1/2s or 6 HV? No problems at all, good loads in my opinion. If you reload, they were one of the best of the "straight walled" plastic base, "Cheddite - type" hulls I have reloaded, much better than Fiocchis (about 10% split the metal bases on new load firing, thin, weak plastic, crimps go south in a hurry, etc.). Unless you want to pay much more for nickle plated shot (GPs), or they have changed up their product lately, they should work just fine IMO.
Mike
