older gent at the trap club got a 20 to try , nice enough gun. Has been back to the smith 3 times as it hasn't made it through a single full round yet . Gave up on it . Will be a nice addition once the bugs are out ! |

Saw the same thing at my local gun club.
I am not yet impressed with the performance and value of certain Turkish guns. |

I have a 12ga Viper G2 that I won at Ducks Unlimited event in 2009 and it has functioned fine when I shot skeet or sporting with it. Of course I don't use it much because it is a 12ga! |

I have a Tristar G2 in 20 gauge that has been flawless for 2,000 or so rounds including temperatures in teens while duck hunting.
I think the simple and robust internals of the Tristar G2 (no plastics) make them a very easy gun to maintain and they simply work-every time. At least that is my experience.
If it is built on a true to scale 16 gauge frame that is quite an accomplishment and hopefully they will sell enough to make the expense worthwhile. |

What do you think it means when some people say a certain brand/model of a gun works well but others say it does not? |

RE my preference for light weight guns -
Starting back about 10 years ago or so, I began gravitating toward light weight upland guns.
Generally 6 and a half pounds is my threshold, 6 pounds and perhaps an ounce or two over is ideal. A couple of my upland guns weigh under 6 pounds unloaded - my Beretta A400 in 28 ga, and my new Browning Sweet Sixteen.
When Upland hunting I cover quite a few miles over hill and dale, and push through some thick brush and prickly thicket - so I find a light weight gun to be my preference. And this year I’ve gotten out 24 times.
So that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

I fully appreciate that. I am at the same point you were 10 years ago.
To me, 6.5 lbs sounds like the lower limit for 12 and 16 gauge guns when it comes to balancing the issues of weight vs felt recoil. |

The tri star being a gas gun should have very little recoil. |

While some gas guns do reduce felt recoil by spreading it over a longer time, the laws of physics cannot be broken.
It has been my experience that some light 20 gauge gas guns have intolerable felt recoil. |

Spring of last year I bought the wife a 20ga Raptor after much research. The Raptor is a pure gas gun whereas my understanding is that the G2 is an inertia gun and may have hiccups with certain loads and/or “limp wristing” into the shot. Anything lighter than upland game loads and you may have problems.
I don’t much like the idea of buying Middle Eastern products, but we ran the gamut with her trying guns. I was really pulling for a pretty Spanish double 20 that I snagged a while back, but I gave up when the only thing she could tolerate the recoil on was a Mossberg 500.
For what it’s worth, her gun has had nothing but reduced recoil hand loads through it and has never blinked after the first three boxes. If they were to make a Raptor in 16ga, I might be sorely tempted to buy one. |

Unless they changed the 16ga version, the Raptor G2 in 12ga I took the forearm off of at my local shop was all gas. No inertia. |

Stopped at Cabelas after hunting yesterday and was shocked to see they had three in the gun library. They’re definitely a viable option at the price point, felt about the same weight as my 11-48 and two had very nice wood, one with nice mineral streaking the other with fairly nice feather on one side. Considering you get fake grain pallet wood on $1600 berettas nowadays (I bought two so I’m allowed to say it), extraordinary to get this on a $750 gun. Butt pad is very grabby was my only gripe |

I ordered the Bronze Viper G2 yesterday. I will report how it shoots and handles soon. |

You are correct, thank you, I mentally flipped the Raptor for the Viper. |

Off topic a bit, but I see Tristar also recently came out with the straight and pistol grip Bristol sxs, but only in a 12 and 20, and only with a single trigger. Looks nicer than a Bobwhite. They are about $850. Interesting to see if they end up making it in a 16. |
