Nice work by Dan/Rebel and the gunner if you bagged all 10. Very happy he is working out so well for you.
Good Hunting,

I took all three dogs over to Spring River Hunts of Kansas last week to work Dan on a tendency to creep when I go in to flush that he started on our last hunt. The two older dogs were there to play cleanup because we were going to be using electronic bird launchers to pop the quail and not shoot if Dan started creeping. I had talked with John Prince about the creeping and he said it was jealousy because I was getting to flush the birds. On the first two quail, he started roading in as I approached and I had my buddy Rich ready and he popped the birds and no shot fired. From the third bird on Dan was absolutely steady, even standing there watching the shot and marking the bird down before charging out for the retrieve. I was amazed and gratified how well the launchers worked on curtailing the creeping
Debbie Dockery, the owner's wife took some great pictures of the training session and actually asked permission to use some our photos on their website to advertise their dog training program. You can check them out on www.springriverhuntskansas.com and click on training.
Dan on point and looking good.
Me on the left, Rich Oliver on the right and Dan holding solid.
Going in for the flush, 16 ga TriStar Brittany at the ready.
Bobwhite coming down, note Dan waiting to mark the bird down before going for the retrieve. He just started doing that on his own volition.
The reward, getting to carry the bird in his mouth. |

It is always gratifying to see your pup develop and master a skill during our hunts. Hopefully he stays that way for you and if not you know how to fix it.
I pick up my pup Cedar from charm school on Tuesday. The trainer says he is doing well.
Good Hunting,
Mike |
