I have no doubt that these Estates are good loads. I used to use the 1 oz Federal 7 1/2's for my grouse loads, and have taken a few WI pheasants with the 6's. I was considering these for pheasants in my AyA, and I'm sure they'd be fine, but I have a pretty good stash of hard shot, so I've decided to work up a couple loads from the ground up and have a little fun with it.

All good, thanks!

I read the first post and thought you were making a joke about the bogus marketing label! That load is the exact opposite of a heavy load, it's a light one oz for the 16 gauge, and it's going slow. It just goes to show that you cannot rely on labels and marketing from even non scammer companies like estate / Federal / Vista, when making purchasing choices 4 ammo.

The other day I saw a box can't remember who, it was lead shot and it had a silhouette of a rabbit a pheasant and a duck on the box Colette buyers know that it would be good for all of them! There'll be some guy trying to explain to the game warden why he was shooting lead shot dot-dot-dot

Dave , I agree that the "Heavy Game Load" labeling is a bit ridiculous, and yes, that wasn't what I was driving at. Just thought someone might have some anecdotal comments about the load.

I've got a little treasure trove of Precision Reloading's nickel-plated hard 5's, 6's, and 7's, and along with some nickel-plated 5.5's from Ballistic Products. From these I'll load up some special game loads for my 16 gauge AyA #2.

Well, not every country fell for the lead shot ban like the USA did. I'm fairly sure there are a number of countries in south america that use lead shot, and I believe I have heard of at least one European country that does as well. You would think that after 30 some years of so called "non-toxic" shot in the USA, that we would at least look at the possibility of allowing it once again. There was no evidence at the time that lead effected waterfowl populations, and I'm seeing nothing that banning lead improved them at all.

I know a little bit of a stretch but the 10ga Fed & Estate hulls are exactly the same. The Estate loads performed every bit as well as the Fed's did.

The "Heavy Game Load" name has nothing to do with the cartridge, it about the game. They are specially made for shooting fat rabbits that can't run as fast and require less forward lead.

Happy New Year

Back in my youth, I used 1 oz, - 6 loads rated at 1200 fps thru a Model 12 12 ga. with a Poly-choke for pheasants. Results were good on crossing shots, but after shooting a couple in the butt and having them run away, I went to the 3 3/4-1 1/4 - 6 heavy load.

I have three or four boxes of 16 ga. factory 1-6 @ 1165 fps loads that I will pattern to see if I can get patterns tight enough to use on quail. No. 6's aren't needed for quail, but I want to use them up.
