I like a straight grip on a shotgun simply because it helps me point the gun with my leading hand, rather than aim it with the rear hand. Simply put, shotguns aren't rifles. That said, I recently picked up a nice pistol grip m/f AYA 12 with the intention of selling it, but thought I'd take it to the range and shoot a round of trap with it. I shoot low gun, even at trap. Shooting high gun makes me think too much. Anyway, I broke a 25 straight, my first ever (I've come close many times, but always seem to have that one bird that gets away from me). If I do keep it, I will still convert it to straight grip. I just prefer the way they feel and look. |

Regardless of what type grip/buttstock or forend you have on a shotgun, to be effective, you must move your body as a unit. If you move the shotgun with your arms you will not be looking where the shotgun is pointing.
I know that I do NOT swing or move the shotgun with my right hand that is on the pistol grip. Nor do I move it with my left hand that is on the forend. The move is started with your legs, the arms, shoulders, head, neck and shotgun move as one.
Try standing on any trap, skeet or sporting clays station and only move your arms.....it will sound something like bang, lost or bang, bang, lost pair. If you are hunting your dog is going to roll his/her eyes.
Sound shooting is sound shooting, which stock you pick isn't going to change that. |
