Folks, I sure would appreciate learning more about this "bring back"; I see on line discussions regarding grading but can't get a handle on how to grade; also, is there a way to determine the year of manufacture. Don't mean to be lazy on getting this info so feel free to point me to a resource I should be diggin' into.[img][/img]

not sure how to add photos but will try including this link

Hello newatthis

WELCOME on your first posting

I could not log into shutterfly

Maybe you could capture an IMG and post it here

The French did not do a good job of date marking their guns

If it is a Manufrance Ideal the grade is usually stamped on the bottom of the lump going through receiver frame. So you look on the bottom of the receiver and the metal that goes through the rectangular hole often has the grade stamped on it. It is usually a number between 1 and 6.

I can’t see the pictures either.

I have a grade 6R EE from the early 1920’s. I’ve also owned but since sold about 5 other MF Ideals in lower grades.

If you send me the serial number (or post it here) I can tell you year of production. You can email me at jgroblin@gmail.com

Also, if you can’t figure out the way to post pics, email them to me and I’ll post on your behalf.

The grading system was a single number as builder noted up to 1931. They then switched over to a three digit model number that constantly evolved. Almost impossible to keep track of the system without notes. Also, some were not stamped with the grade or model number on the through lump as some did not have through lumps.

Shutterfly requires that I download an app and sign up. Won't do that. Would like to help you out but you need to simply send me the photos by email, not link me to a hosting site. I don't mind how many photos (how many emails) you have to send me.

Also, will be out until this evening now. And if you want to date the gun, and the serial number is not visible in photos, don't forget to send it to me.

James
