Bob White quail. You need some sort of gravy, for it can be dry. A good, tender Canada goose, that has fed on corn- has to be in there. And a mallard or canvasback- feathers plucked, whole bird, roasted or smoked.

Dovehuntingfool,

I agree southern style gravy with Quail and home made Biscuits are some fine eating. I differ on the Canada Goose, trade you 5 of them for a good Wood Duck cooked in Orange sauce any time. Wood Duck tastes very much like Grouse and sometimes even more tender. Man you guys are making me hungry!

all the best,

I had a tough time deciding between elk and moose...ultimately I chose elk for the simple fact that I haven't eaten moose for a number of years. Growing up on elk, deer a myriad of duck species and three species of the forest grouse, my favorite was always elk. When I moved to AK and harvested my own moose, at the time I thought that I preferred moose over elk. I also liked bison and muskox....right up there with moose and elk, but again, since I haven't had either of those in years and my freezer's full of elk, that's what I voted for.

It's often said about wild game that it's never a good idea to start calculating the price per pound. That's something I agree with wholeheartedly.

Today, I was at the local supermarket and noticed they happened to have several fresh, domestic rabbits in the meat cooler. They were actually pretty big, 2 or 3 pounds. Being a big fan of rabbit I decided to see what they were charging.

When I saw the price was $30 and change I put it back on the rack very carefully. Market Basket is making the per pound price of hunting for dinner look very attractive.

WyoChukar to MSM2019's "...cept we got no ruffies here", says: "Oh yes you do...I can tell you where. It's not that far away."

Try the Turtle Mountain area or around Pembina.

On the survey choices -- Hey! where's the duck? I know duck is complicated, and hard to generalize from all the species available, though. Interesting survey nonetheless. Thanks Mark.

Cheers!
Tony

Smoke,

Those areas are 4 hours and 2 1/2 hours away. Agreed that they are a lot closer then the trip I used to make from CT.....LOL!!

Truth be known, I am not truly motivated to hunt and stay anywhere overnight, 27 years of 3,200 mile round trips have popped that cherry....although I am making the 8 hour trip to Nebraska for spring turkey in a month or so. But I stay at my own house.....much more relaxing.

If there is a trip on the 2021 calendar it would be to hunt sharpies in the ND Badlands, but that is a long shot for this year.
