This deaf, dumb and blind squirrel found what I think is a rare nut, hang tag at Cabelas used rack read 11-48 12ga, thought the barrel looked a bit trim for a 12 so I picked it up, Hmmm, oh my, holy cow....16ga Sportsman 48SC OEM Skeet VR barrel, cut checkering, outstanding wood, outstanding condition overall, very light freckle rust in a couple small places, all honest wear and tear, might even bring myself to shoot a couple lines with it, have a look...

A blast from the past. Pretty cool! Beauty shotgun. |

That’s the best grade wood I’ve ever seen on an 11-48. Nice find, I’d been hard pressed to pass that one up myself. |

Wow!!
A righteous Sportsman 48SC Grade Skeet Gun, and in 16-gauge. Anything better than that would be the engraved guns from the custom shop.
I'd sacrifice 50 of my compression formed Winchester/Western 16-gauge hulls hitting the ground to shoot a couple of rounds with that gun. |

Good looking gun, AND it is in the right gauge. |

And now the rest of the story.....Yes, purchased the gun, didn't even make it back in the rack. Researcher, if ever in the area near Grand Rapids, MI let me know, be glad to host you at the club.
Glad you guys are enjoying the (never do it justice) pics, the wood is stunning, the checkering still feels sticky, a sweet machine indeed. Interesting the barrel is 25.5" muz->base of chamber, bore just ahead of the forcing cone, mid barrel and end of muzzle is nominal 0.675" a region ~2-2.5" in from muzzle is ~0.668"... possible some special Skeet choke/grind?? Looking forward to finding time to get to the club soon to shoot it.
This should do well in the kayak chasing Quackers and pressed into service as a paddle, push or anchor pole once in awhile.... |

Yikes ! I love to know the production numbers on that gun. Cabela’s often does this. A friend found a LC Smith 410 Trap Grade at Cabelas in Hamburg years ago. When he inquired the salesman leaned over and said “you know that’s a replica right?” My buddy said yes of course. He got it dirt cheap and it sold at an auction for over 5k, which was still a steal. Luckily he knew what he had in his hands. |

#7.35lbs, balances on the bolt release button, very lively in the hands. Evenly distributed ~28-30" pattern printed on the 20yrd steel grease plate, 23 low gun Skeet last night, shoots as beautifully as she looks with 7/8oz reloads, should make a fantastic bluebird day Grouse gun.
OR maybe saw it down to 18.001", rattle-can flat black, tactical rail under the forearm + flashlight, mag extension, reddot on top... |
